I'd prefer to shoot them all below the knees though or in the hands if it wasn't illegal. That would really stop crime.

that's exactly what they do in Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia and most of the middle East...get caught stealing, they chop your hand off!...do it again, off goes the other one!...no judge, no jury...guilty as charged...and then people wonder why the crime rate over in those countries is less than 1% (give or take a little)
