I think it would be a smart move:
1) Production cost of making the penny exceeds the one-cent face value.
2) Melt value of the nickel (surprisingly) is > 5-cents, b/c of the weight. Why not just melt it?
Would be one (small) move toward fiscal responsibility. As Inflation continues, Penny/Nickel will become more useless. What can you really buy for 1-cent? Or 5-cents?
