It sounds like it had nothing to do with the artist. It was more of a crowd control break down of sorts. It reminds me of the days when I would come out of the Dead Kennedy's show all bloody and bruised. If they were more popular, I could have been a statistic too. That's the price you pay however to have a good time. Remember to work out because only the strong survive.
