Sports is one of the only industries where the best players by virtue of physical talent ie measurables make the playing field, court, what have you.

*many* positions are not direct revenue generating roles - they are called "warm body" positions, and that's where white men were winning at an inordinate rate vs white women and nonwhite men and women.

getting their feet in the door would allow white men to rise up in the ranks and then move up to management positions, not because they were better than anyone else who did not look like them, but because they had a leg up by catching a break from a friend, acquaintance, associate, family member, what-have-you.
