The drawdown of US troops is proper IF AND ONLY IF the threat and commitment of the US to support the Afghanistan government is there.
It was there under Trump, the international community respected the US and feared Trump.
Trump would not walk away from the trillions spent and have the optics of this disaster. It would never happen.
The issue here isn't the withdrawal, it's the weakness of Biden. The complete lack of respect the international community has for him, the total lack of fear he eminates. He is weak, and this is what weakness looks like.
If you're going to draw down your troops in a hostile country you better sure as hell be prepared to redeploy them if your reputation and international credibility is at stake.
What other Country would ever trust another US leader now when discussing or representing military cooperation?

The 'war' was over in 3 years, it was a route.
The last 15 have been infrastructure building and regional stabilization.
It has not been a 20 year war. Even the 'surge ' was a relatively small amount od land troops overall.

There has been no infrastructure built or regional stabilization. That is why this thing has been a disaster from the start. It's never been about anything more than a big show and money.
So they could not make it work anymore and now they are getting out. The same people that screwed it up from the start are screwing it up now.

Oh I'll totally agree the military spending has its fair share of support from the GOP but it wasn't going into mechanical assets it was going into capital improvements abroad, including, but not limited to, Afghanistan.
If there were actually ongoing combat operations you'd see much higher military spending and more obviously, domestic protests.
I think Iraq was more for show.
The imagry of the Saddam statue toppling.
But let's not forget that the only real disruption to peace in that region for the last 22 years has been a few errant missile from Syria.
Even Iran saw a democratic movement in 09/10

I know this because I have filed for trademark and it will now take up to a full year before it is even approved.
