Man about to lose 250(M) that's right MILLION in lost Crypto Key
I'm not sure how to quantify this, laughable , sad, ironic, ...

Says he had 2 "identical" hard drives. Well , I guess they weren't identical if the key was only on the one he threw away.

Secondly , he apparently works in IT. Did he ever hear of backup?

Here's a snip from one article.

James Howells, a 35-year-old IT engineer from Newport, Wales, said he discarded the device while clearing out his home in 2013. He claims he had two identical laptop hard drives, and that he mistakenly put the one containing the cryptographic “private key” needed to access and spend his bitcoins in the trash.

    Full article here ...

A man who says he threw away a hard drive loaded with 7,500 bitcoin in 2013 is offering his council $70 million to dig it up from the city dump (msn.com)

He deliberately threw it in the trash in 2013, thinking bitcoin would never be worth anything.

      ...

      Plot twist.

How is that possible? Every lottery commission I’ve seen enforces the most basic lottery rule of no ticket no prize. This stops thousands of people from opening frivolous lawsuits claiming their dog ate the ticket.

I had similar thing happen to me and so did thousands of other people. I probably had hundreds if not thousands of bitcoin at one point and they were worth basically nothing so they went into the dumpster with the laptop. This was back when you could watch adds and get free bitcoins. They were called bitcoin faucets. Whoops.
