Just wanted to bump this thread and help others decide what's best for Football Season.
My DirecTV contract is up August 7, 2016. I called today to renegotiate. Since AT&T has taken over DirecTV.... they don't budge much on pricing anymore. The only way to save money with DirecTV is to bundle another AT&T service... such as internet and/or cell service. Here is DirecTV's newest package that includes NFL Sunday Ticket and Premium Channels Free for 90 days. DirecTV refused to come near this offer for current customers.
1. 2 Year Agreement.
2. Must Select Total Choice Programming (Or Higher) For Free NFL Sunday Ticket 2016.
3. Up to 2 Rooms in Your Home. Free HD. Free In-HOME DVR. No Equipment Fees. No Installation Fees. Best Deal ever offered.
4. What's the catch? It's already rolled over in their programming price.
I did the math for everyone... if you selected 2 Rooms in your home.
1st Year $61.97 Each Month
2nd Year $105.97 Each Month
Combine Both Years on Avg. $83.97 Each Month.
This would include NFL Sunday Ticket 2016, All Free Premium Channels For 90 Days.
This offer is good Until Mid October 2016
But, I'm going to cancel my service tonight.... and see if they have a plan to resign up just before Football Season starts.
Hope this info helps everyone.

Waves... you have to admit that the flow of the transmission isn't 100% perfect. The quality of the picture isn't close to 100% HD. The audio doesn't come in at 5.1 Dolby Digital. If the feed gets broken.... you have to flip to find another feed... it could take 1-2 minutes.
I'm all about Free. But in this equation free isn't worth it.
If you happened to have guests over your home... and you were watching an NFL feed on that format. How would they not laugh at you? Yes, at first it's cool to say... HEY I'M GETTING IT FOR FREE! But...what are you really getting? Nothing but a headache and an embarrassment.

If firetv was as much of a headache as you're making it out to be, myself & others wouldn't be putting up with it. Plenty of non buffering links in HD & close to it, audio is fine as well. You want the moon for free? I don't need the moon for free.
We can agree to disagree here. I'm very happy with Firetv, watching any sporting event I want. And you can't beat the monthly price of 0 dollars & 0 cents.

Not really putting up a major fight with you Waves. I appreciate the info you gave to me before and I researched the matter as well. But, are we comparing apples with apples here? No. I also don't want to mislead anyone who's reading this... and may think of purchasing one on Ebay... or buying one yourself... and programming it.
There's many variables to the equation... such as what major city you're living in... what are your cable/satellite providers you can chose from... and what price you can get it for etc. Some people can apparently only get TV/Internet for $120-$150 a month... for whatever reason. Some people can get it as low as $70 a month out the door. So... you're factoring in quality with price.
Are you watching NFL, NBA, MLB games on a 60-70 inch HDTV? Is the signal coming in 100% 1080p HD? Make sure you answer the questions for people reading this thread. Because it's not.
If you're a college kid... in your 20's and you wanted to toy around with FireTV and try to fine tune it.... it might be up your alley... because IT'S 100% FREE. But, there's ZERO QUALITY. Again, the only advantage is that there are a MILLION MOVIES in 720p and 2 Channel Audio. Knock yourself out. Those stream pretty well. The LIVE TV... and your MLB Packages... don't stream entirely perfect. And for anyone reading this... it's not 100% about your internet speed at home. It's all about the server you're hooking up to... and how over populated it is. You have no way of knowing.
So... I cancelled DirecTV 2 days ago and I believe they are going to offer me a Welcome Back Promotion. I can't confirm it at this moment... but once it's official I will let everyone know. I switched to Playstation Vue for the time being. Anyways... rumor has it that the DirecTV welcome back package is...
1. $200 off normal package pricing 1st year. And/Or $200 Prepaid Vsa Card.
2. Free NFL Sunday Ticket 2016 Season
3. Free HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz For 3 Months
4. No Equipment Fees. No HD Fees. No DVR Fees. (2 Rooms Only)
5. Total Choice Package Only $29.99 + Taxes etc 1st Year
6. 2-Year Service Agreement
So if you factor in everything....
1st Year: $31.96 Each Month
2nd Year: $105.97 Each Month
Average bill each month for 24 months $68.97
That's pretty reasonable.... better than paying regular pricing. I can live with this.

I cancelled direct tv 2 months ago. Got the $200 gift card offer, didn't really pay attention to the price cause I'm done with those dbags anyway. Not sure I've ever seen them offer free HD and DVR though. The get you in with a decent package price then f you over with those extras.

Thanks for the post! The new package was released on Monday July 18, 2016. The promotion extends until Mid-October. It's for New Activation and also Welcome Back for previous customers. There's only one catch... you're only allowed to receive the promotion for 2-Room Service only. 3 or more rooms won't qualify. The Free HD, Free DVR, No Equipment Rental Fees etc... is sort of rolled into the Choice Package Price. I believe Choice is $74.99 currently for regular subscribers (not including any additional equipment fees etc.) Your 2nd Year is around $105.97 roughly... so... even though they are telling you it's FREE... it's not.
And I also agree that ever since AT&T took ownership over of DirecTV... they are sort of running it into the ground. They have to pay Bon Jovi millions for his commercial. Turning back time and sh#$.

Correct, the quality I receive from FireTv is well worth the price of $0/month.
Are you watching NFL, NBA, MLB games on a 60-70 inch HDTV? Is the signal coming in 100% 1080p HD? Make sure you answer the questions for people reading this thread. Because it's not.
I'm watching on a 52" HD tv. My viewing links are either in 1080p HD or 720p. Did you research the app ProSport? This app gives me sports in HD. Atdhenet.tv gives me sports in 720p. Both are high quality viewing.
When black & white TV's first came out, do you think folks were complaining about the quality of picture? Of course not, they were just stoked to be watching tv instead of listening to the radio. So complaining about viewing half the time in 720p instead of HD for $0/month, is ludicrous & comes off materialistic in my humble opinion.
I had Directv for years, until I finally woke up & realized how much of a rip off it was. Then I educated myself by doing extensive research & came across FireTv. You won't find many others who pay $9.95/month for both internet & great quality tv programming with all the: sports, movies, & (Brazzers) porn I want in HD.
Let's not forget, when there's any kind of storm Directv goes down. So when the weather conditions dictate staying home, most people want to relax & watch tv. But unfortunately, you can't watch tv during a storm. That's unreliable service, they won't even give you a days credit for the outage unless you call & complain. Unreliable service for $150/mo, no thanks.
it's not 100% about your internet speed at home. It's all about the server you're hooking up to... and how over populated it is. You have no way of knowing.
This is true...I have low speed internet & have very few links with buffering issues.
You don't even have to take my word for it. Gary Busey swears by FireTv, that's all you really need to know:
This is how dumb DirecTV is.... I tried to negotiate with the Retention Department before I cancelled my service. They wouldn't budge on anything. All they offered me was a bill of $82.00 a month and nothing free.
So I closed my account.
I waited 48 hours. Then, I contacted their "Win Back Department"
$200 Pre Paid card FREE
NFL Sunday Ticket 2016 Free
HBO... Premiums FREE 90 Days
Department threw in Free $30 off credit statement
24 Month Avg Bill $73.97 (2 Years)
Better savings than a new subscriber.
I just don't understand why DirecTV wastes money paying for boxes and postage to ship back my old receivers.
Then... pay a tech to reinstall receivers again?
Crazy... business in America.

I guess I should of gone that route of cancelling. I did get 30 a month off for a year. But when you factor in they were going to charge full price it was around 116. So it will be around 85 for a year but I had to pay for the nfl package. Last year I was able to get like 50 a month off. I was paying 66.
Does anybody get at&t wireless? I was wondering about bundling that or maybe uverse with internet.

Retention department usually budges more. Ever since AT&T took ownership over... they don't seem to budge on anything. Quite surprised about this "Win Back Department"... sounds very ridiculous.
You have to weigh the pros and cons in regards to bundling other things to get your DirecTV bill cheaper. For instance... the only way you can bundle with AT&T cell service... you must select the UNLIMITED plan. You get UNLIMITED EVERYTHING... INCLUDING DATA for $100 a month + taxes. It would bring your DirecTV bill (Total Choice Pkg.) to a flat $60.00 out the door rate per month. The catch is... you have to be a new subscriber with DirecTV and AT&T wireless. This plan doesn't work for me... because I'm with Sprint... still on that Framily Plan... I pay only $30 a month for cell service.
You can also try and bundle AT&T internet but for $30 a month... you're getting ripped off on speed. This would also bring you down to that $60.00 flat DirecTV Total Choice Rate.
DirecTV has a pretty good bundle rate on their programming... but awfully expensive for cell service and internet service.
One cool feature about the DirecTV and AT&T UNLIMITED cell plan... you can watch DirecTV on your cell phone 24 hours a day. From what I understand... it's any channel. I don't know how much buffering is involved? But it's kind of cool to watch TV anywhere.

I was watching basketball & hockey in HD via ProSport. But you're correct, baseball doesn't seem to be working for some reason.
I mostly watch baseball with Atdhenet.tv via Castaway. The 720p picture quality is very good with no buffering. When Atd goes down from time to time I just use dimsports.eu, or one of the many alternatives like batmanstream.com.
Bottom line is Directv rips off their naive customers, charging hundreds of dollars for these sports packages anyone can get for free. Reminds me of my cable tv days when I would use a descrambler box, getting pay-per-view fights, movies, & porn for free.

Right. Who didn't have a FTA Viewsat Box that worked for DN? That was gold right there. I'm watching what I type here... but you get the idea.
FTA for DN was 100X better than Amazon Fire TV with Kodi. That was an entirely different ball game.

Technology sure has changed since the start of this thread. More options for TV... especially if you have a great price for unlimited data on your cell. You can bring TV right to your phone now.
I'm very surprised DirecTV keeps increasing their prices. It's kind of pointless to some degree. On different forums... people claiming DirecTV has frequent pixelation off/on. I was also one of those subscribers this was happening to. It was very annoying. No one should be paying full price especially if you aren't getting the service you deserve. Just google DirecTV Pixelation... numerous threads pop up of subscribers having trouble. ATT/DirecTV playing dumb... like they don't know what you're talking about. But the engineers do know what's going on... and they haven't released a fix yet.

Only issue to this... you still have to pay a provider for home internet access with decent download speeds. It can get pricey. Had 30mbps on the download with ping at 8-9ms and had a shi#load of buffering. Of course... this was back when it just came out... in 2016 or 2017. Can't remember when... but I tried it.

I could be wrong but think you only need 10mbs download. I didn’t change any of my connection speeds and so far so good. The occasional buffering but well worth the not paying 100-125 a month

READ THIS POST IF YOU WANT TO SAVE MONEY ON YOUR DIRECTV BILL!
As everyone is fully aware that DirecTV has had "pixelation" problems across the United States for the last 2-3 years. Again, not every account is effected... some are... and of course mine was. We all know Cable and satellite packages have increased dramatically. There's no reason to pay above $60.00 a month to watch SPORTS! This is a conversation I had moments ago with a DirecTV "WINBACKREP" and here's how I saved money off my bill.
Lady answered the phone and said... what can I help you with? In sort of a mean way lol I said... um... honestly... looking to lower my bill. I can't afford what I'm paying now. (Currently on the Entertainment Package - All Included at $100.00 a month.) All my previous discounts fell off.
She said... let me see what I can do for you could you please hold? I said sure. Comes back about 2 minutes later. She goes... do you like your current package? Naturally, I got used to the Entertainment package... not going to pay the extra monthly fee for my Detroit Regional Fox Sports etc. I think the cost is bullsh#$. So I said... yes... my current package is fine. She goes good. I can do $55.00 off for 12 months. No contract. That will bring you to $45.00 a month for the next 12 months.
I'm thinking damn... what a deal. I said... any offers for like HBO? Or NFL Sunday Ticket? She said... hold the line for a few minutes. I said no problem. I was on hold for about 4 minutes. She came back and said.... ok here's what I can do for you. The only way I can basically give it to you for FREE or around FREE is... I have to input it as 6 Months - Sunday Ticket Max at $65.99. I will throw an additional $60.00 credit for 6 months. That will wipe away most of that $65.99 charge. Leave you with $5.99 charge per month. But wait... I will throw in a $200.00 Free **** Gift Card to wipe away the remaining $5.99 per month charge and give you more of a discount. Then she said... I will set you up with HBO Free for 3 months. But you must call to cancel the HBO.
So here's the breakdown from what DirecTV billing online is showing.
Entertainment Package All Included - $100.00 Entertainment $60.00 Credit 12 Months - $-60.00 Entertainment $60.00 Credit 12 Months - $-60.00 NFL Sunday Ticket Max $65.99 HBO Charge $17.99 HBO (3 Months HBO DUO Credit) - $-17.99 DYNAMIC UPGRADE OFFER TAKER - $0.00 HIGH VALUE CUSTOMER CHARGE - $0.00 $200.00 - FREE **** GIFT CARD
First 6 Months Out The Door $45.99 Each Month Last 6 Months Out The Door $-20.00 (Credit) Each Month.... Watching Free DirecTV? lol Come on now. Is this lady going to lose her job?
Now.... if you look closely there's 2 credits of $-60.00. Did she really just give me an additional credit for $60.00 after the Sunday Ticket Subscription is over 6 months from now? So technically after the 6 months.... my service would be free? Come on now... this is UNREAL. lol
Now again... the secret is calling the 619-752-1401 number. I believe this number is a secret DirecTV "WIN BACK YOUR BUSINESS NUMBER". From what I know... you can use this number even WHILE ON CONTRACT WITH DIRECTV. Simply call up the number and say... I was wondering if you could help me save money off my bill? The price is way out of my families budget now. We can't afford this price.
I promise you... you won't pay full price for DirecTV anymore.

Iptv is a joke too. If you think customer service is bad for cable and satellite just wait until you try to troubleshoot side loading an apk from some shady file transfer site. Good luck.

The rep told me over the phone she put a $60.00 credit for 6 months.
Detailed billing says there are 2 credits of $60.00 1/12 months.
So yes... she verbally told me it was $60.00 for 6 months off the bill. (Over the phone)
Online "recent billing" is showing something different. Like I said... when my first bill prints... I will post it. It won't be for about 3 weeks or so because my newest bill just printed with my previous discounts... (not the new ones.)
Always glad to help fellow posters at SBR.... that's why I post... so we all can learn and SAVE.

I heard about that. Definitely that's good firepower to use on them when negotiating.
They key when negotiating.... (this is what has worked for me.)
1. When you call... make sure all your previous discounts have fallen off (expired.)
2. Even if you were on a 2 year contract... and all your discounts have expired and you're entering your 13th month at FULL PRICE... negotiating still works (oddly enough.)
3. If you are already getting a free premium channel.... or other discounts... you don't have much room to negotiate. But, you can always see if you can get Sunday Ticket for Free. Typically they ask you to do another 1 year contract.
Just giving you the heads up. Good luck.
