    Beware of exploding glass ware
Not very long ago I read an article by Consumers Report that American glass companies changed the formulation for glass products and these products are often times exploding when not used with great care. I told my kid about it and warned them to be very careful when using glass products. These include most glass produced by Hocking and oh crap I can't think of the name of the other producer right now.

So a word of warning to you guys too. These products can explode if used improperly, not just crack but literally explode like a bomb. I knew this and yet I screwed up badly.

I was heating some water in a regular metal pan on my stove. I go into the living room to wait and all of a sudden a bomb like sound went off in the kitchen. I couldn't imagine what it was it was incredibly loud. Well I go into the kitchen and find glass shattering shards all over the place, tiny pieces the size of tooth picks and some the size of a baby finger. One the size of that finger was sticking into a carpet I had about 15 feet away from the stove. It was super hot and I needed a knife to remove it from the carpet because it was propelled with such force. For the next three hours I was on my hands and knees attempting to figure out what happened. Then it hit me, I had a heavy glass pie plate on the stove and I accidentally turned that burner on. The pie plate exploded with tremendous force. This was my own stupidity but this can happen when simply taking a hot glass product out of the oven, it has happened. It can happen by placing a hot glass product on a wet surface. Point here is be especially careful when dealing with American made glass products. Europe still uses the old formula but try and get them, they are incredibly expensive.

Just a word to the wise guys. If you need more info refer to consumer reports and exploding glass products.
