Another day, another dollar. I wish I could take these kind of beats at my local casino, as I'd have hit a lot of bad beat jackpots by now! Even at the time I knew I should have just called that last bet as I've seen this play out too many times before. Gotta love Stars

Ouch, hurts me just reading it, you seem to take alot of real terrible bad beats.

What can i say, that was a bonafide nightmare of a hand BB, I can see why your frustration is escalating in regards to online play, however and you know i will usually be able to find an however(lol).

You asked me in another thread how to build the BR over time.

Excluding hitting a MTT, which by the way no one can ever count on hitting, but if you give yourself enough opportunities you will eventually, make some collections if you play enough of them, so giving yourself opportunities= playing many of them.

The problem is that it costs alot to play them.

On P.S everyday there are all kinds of 50-100-165-etc etc so if your BR IS low you can't just play these cause if you don't connect on one early you will usually blow your roll.

So what you must do is somehow supplement a piece of your bankroll by grinding out cash in the cash games, (remember this is only if your BR is low like 500-1000$ to start. or grind out a few $$ in small sit&gos, when your up a bit, somewhere down the line play a few MTT'S always giving yourself the opportunity at the big score(instant gratification &big money).

If you got big money in your acoount, say 25k and higher then this theory doesnt apply, as you can earn good money over time just playing large, and minimizing all losses plus you can play all tourneys without it hurting as much if you don't hit.

That said Imo you chose the wrong game omaha is much more of a gambling game then the other games, plus you were up in the game so perhaps if you would of left the game earlier and booked a small win this hand would of never happened( remember im just playing devils advocate here)

In order to build your BR IN cash games you must be able to book small wins, it's not like playing live where your going to be at the same table for 4 hours, pick up 80$ leave go to another game pick up whatever it is book it then hit another game, and i don't mean play 10 mins and leave but you must, build your BR one cash game at a time, or the other way take your 500$ jump into a 2-4$ omaha with it and cross your fingers, and with a little luck you'll triple up, it's called gambling.

IMO you must go slow and especially with a small BR.

plus game choice, not sure if that omaha 1-2 was your best choice. you don't have as much control, plus the beats are really scary as you have shown.

      Better luck.............AL

Thanks Al. I have a pretty decent bankroll, and used to play almost exclusively $38-$115 SnGs. I just wasn't happy with my ROI, so much so that I don't know if I could justify my time. Let's say I have a 16% ROI (which is pretty solid) and play two tourneys an hour. I'd be just about better off having taken a second job!

Al I've considered just playing heads up and exclusively hunting down bad players, but the same ROI concerns exist. Let's say I play 30 daily heads up matches with an average buyin of $50, and average winning 58% (roughly 17-13 over every 30 games). When you factor in the rake once again I'd have been better off buttoning up my suit.

One of my biggest concerns is finding games profitable enough to make it worth my while longterm, so much so that I've been spending substantial time contemplating the best route.

I used to play the $30-$60 limit hold 'em, but when I netted out my ROI was actually happier with the micro PL games. I'd have weeks where I'd win $4K, and then the next week lose two trips vs. trips hands and lose $2.5K, and when I aggregated the #s with the hours put in was not overly content.

Thanks for your time as always Al...

That sucks,,,,,,,it does not get much worse than that, but on the other subject about time vers money won it is still much better to play poker than go into any office....even if you are only making 20 bucks an hour......

No, regular side game (unfortunately). You're right about the jackpot. I've seen the Omaha bad beat jackpot reach up to $75K before, and would have won it in this instance. Unfortunately the site in question here doesn't offer bad beat jackpots....

In terms of lifestyle I'd generally agree rugby. Obviously if you're not paying taxes that helps a lot too, but on the other hand you get benefits, a 401K, paid vacation, etc. at your 9 to 5. Obviously it comes down to your earning potential in the market vs. at the tables with lifestyle concerns both ways thrown in. Thanks for your post, as I love to be able to discuss the totality of time vs. money in various ventures. Cheers and GL...
