Why was 8 chosen for low hands in hi/low?

Why was ace to eight chosen? Why not something else? Why not 7 or 9? Couldn’t find any info, curious.

Well, when Ace can be high or low, A23456789TJKQA puts 7.5 at the exact center. High hands are strictly better than low hands since they are better at scooping the pot, so I'd guess they bumped it up for the low hands. Just speculation, but it makes sense
