general late tournament strategy, mediocre hand on button
this came up on 5Dimes a few days ago.

late in tournament in the money already, smaller stack has 36k at 1200 2400 level not sure the ante off the top of my head.

anyways he gets k2 suited on the button (folds to him), what do you do?

    a. fold
    b. limp
    c. raise (how much if you do this?)
    d. shove

i really think theres only one way to play it maybe 2, but im trying to get a better feel of the players here.

How significant the antes are and chips the blinds have play a big role, but limping and raising are out of the question. Difference between 100&200 antes at this level is fairly significant. Depending on the antes, IMO a little too early to be shoving k2 vs two random hands if one of the blinds shows calling tendencies. It's borderline between shove and fold though.

K2 plays poorly in position, fold or min raise fold

I definitely think its too early for a shove (still 15bb).

I do think raise fold is good (5k-5500 total raise is good enough imo)

        Obviously fold if reraised.

I could see folding if the blinds had been agressive playing back at you with frequency, but generally im making a small raise here.

This hand looks pretty shitty but its probably the best hand at this point and you are in position.

What DB said. Not nearly enough info. Also need to know the average stack size at this point along with the exact stack sizes of each player at the table at the very least. Stats on how the players have been playing will determine if shoving here is the most EV spot or not, i.e. if you have a LAG to your right who has shown that he's willing to lay down to 3bets, you have a perfect re-shoving stack to pick up ~5bb at a time. Agree it is typically between fold and shove with a 15bb stack.

As opposed to playing OOP? If I'm playing K2suited post flop, I surely want to be playing it in position.

If the blinds are aggressive and playing back at your button opens frequently, I think raise/fold is the worst option of the four BY FAR. If they are 3b a high % back at you and if I decide to open Kh2h, I'm playing the percentages and taking my stand with this hand here especially if you have them covered. Again, not enough information on the table and hero's own playing style so far. Limping is an option only if you have balanced your button play well previously and have a good idea of how both blinds play post flop.

i think limping is terrible here in any situation myself.

anyways, i think the ante is 200 if i remember correctly, it was 12 handed so 6 at each table.

this guy was probably in 11th or 12th place as you are pretty deep for this tournament.

in a vacuum, im likely to raise/fold to a 3bet, but if i had info on the blinds and i knew they were the 3 betting type (especially if they were deep) i probably just fold.

i really dont ever like shoving, i think there can definitely be better spots with the stack we have, winning the 5kish thats in there isnt worth risking the whole tournament.
