    Laying off a Big future
K Guys, need some advice, I had a bunch on the hockey finalists at good odds early in the season on a couple sites. Now, If I laid off on WSEX for game 7 as one of my main bets for the best price, is that unethical? Or should laying off in these situations be done on another site?

    Thanks

I'm not understanding the question. You have future bets on both Edmonton and Carolina to win the Cup and want to split the difference and make some cash on Game 7?

I would say yes, split some, but leave extra in who you like to win it. I did the same in the NCAA final. I had Florida in a pool, so I played UCLA small to guarantee at least some profit even though I loved Florida to win easily.

I see nothing wrong with covering your bets at the same book. By doing that, they are saving money if you longshot play comes in, as opposed to dropping action at another book.

You must have gotten a great price on Edmonton?

To the best of my knowledge, no book would mind a bit if you hedged a futures bet by betting an individual game at the same book. I think that's what you are asking.

What MrX said is right on. WSEX in particular will not care.

thanks guys.. then just shopping for the best price is all I have to worry about then. I didn't think I'd have to worry, but hey, that's why SBRforum is here...

I had an avg of 30-1 throughout the season..as high as 60-1 at times... It's turned into a beast though trying to cover itself up from round 2... Still I'm letting the series for the most part play itself out with the Oil.. Just some cautious pessimism the other way...

I would think they would be happy because you are reducing their liabilty.

Its been said before but.. if you have to hedge your futures bet then you bet too much originally

                Dr,

You are right in most cases, but if the price was particually good and made it a really good bet then it can be good to overbet and then hedge later. In general I agree with you, but sometimes the price allows for overbetting, especially if you have enough outs to get a great price on whatever hedge option you choose.
