I am a consultant and get 1099's from my employers. So, the other day I was working on my taxes and going over my 1099's and comparing them to my check stubs. I found a $12000 discrepancy from one employer. Today I got my new 1099 for $12000 less. I hate when companies try to do shit like this thinking that people are just happy to file their taxes and get their refund.
Make sure you keep your pay stubs/instant deposit stubs. I had to BS my employer to send them to me because I didnt have all of them, but I knew the numbers they had on the 1099 were not right. I will from now on!! Also, verify they are correct, just dont assume the CPA or payroll dept has everything right.
Protect your money. Not doing these things is -EV.
