The difference between winning LAD bid of $2.15b and No. 2 bid of about $1.4-1.5 billion was greater than some franchise values.

Overpaying for shit makes rich folks feel better. Ask tom hicks when he bidded against himself for aroid. It felt better than nutting in katy perry.

But the Phillies are worth only 723 million? With 150+ sellouts in a row and the best record in baseball last year, color me confused.

Fifteen years ago, or so, when Forbes began their valuations of major market sports teams, they probably wouldn’t have even tried to put a number on the Phillies. Now, they’re reaching for $1 billion in the near future. Forbes says the Philadelphia Phillies franchise is worth $723 million, the fifth-highest valuation in Major League Baseball. […]

Face Value Vs Book Value is two different things.

The Yankees are worth 1.2 billion dollars, but will sell for at least 4 billion...easily

The group overpaid for the Dodgers. The major difference with the sale of the Dodgers compared to other teams is that the stadium and huge acres of land surrounding Dodgers Stadium came with it. However, the group still overpaid big time and LA won't see a winning brand of baseball for a long time. They aren't gonna be able to spend money on the team any time soon. Breaks my heart being a lifelong Dodgers fan.

Boggles the mind. This group didn't even get the revenue from the parking lots at the stadium in the deal. It stays with McCourt.
