Arb services are a tricky thing. There is a fundamental catch-22. The usual measure of whether or not any service is "good" is if it's making a lot of customers happy, but as soon as a lot of customers get signed up for an arb service, it becomes almost impossible to please them.

The arb alerts come out and there are increasing numbers of people racing to play them - the arbs vanish quickly - eventually the subscribers end up getting practically nothing but false starts.

As I mentioned to you hanco, I was invited into a private arbing group. It was about 7 guys in Europe and New Zealand. The thing they had to balance was that it cost money to keep the thing running - so more paying subscribers was a good thing in one way - but all the investers were also players so they didn't want to go nuts and market the hell out of the thing and then lose all their own arbs.

And that's the thing all arb services have to balance. The way a lot of them go is just try to sign up as many people as possible and make all the quick bucks they can.

It's a natural tendency. It is a credit to the long-term thinking of the group I tried out that they have not done that. Those guys are doing well. It didn't work out for me though and I gave up on it after a couple months.

As I also mentioned, I also looked at arbbest. That was probably a couple years ago. They were a service with limited membership. Again, I couldn't integrate what they were offering into my work successfully enough to justify the cost.

Arbbest seemed to be doing fairly well, however when I go to their old domain now, I see talk of electronic semiconductors so something has happened there. I'll have to look into it a little deeper.

I would be interested to hear of anyone else's experiences.
