OT - movie review of Paradise Now
I rented this on DVD. Very interesting movie. It is the story of 2 Palestinians friends on the West Bank who are recruited to carry out a suicide bombing in Tel Aviv.

    It's in Arabic with subtitles.

It was controversial when it came out because some people didn't like how it humanizes people who do these things. But then other people (like myself) find it good for exactly that reason.

The movie does not preach. It paints a picture of the bitter world these Palestinians live in without giving sympathy to their mission. If anything, it emphasizes the pointlessness of it. It shows the role of religion.

It's obviously not a Hollywood piece of fluff. This is not Garfield: The Movie. This is the kind of movie I came away from feeling better educated and more well-rounded.

    Disturbing but

I haven't seen it yet Mudcat but I've heard some very good things about it along the lines of what you are saying. There was a big effort from Jewish groups to make sure this movie didn't get out to the public...which fortunately failed. I'd like to see it but really don't have the stomach to see those type of movies sometimes so I really have to be in the mood and I am not sure when that will happen. Most people simply don't understand what is going on in that region....and while Palestinian terrorism receives most of the attention Israeli terrorism is rarely if ever reported here by the obsequious U.S. media.

there is a big effort here from the Israeli lobby to make sure that nobody knows what is going on in the conflict because if they were to know (i.e. the rest of the world knows and you can see not a single country's population supports Israel) they would stop supporting Israel. Of course, the only nation in the world that supports Israel (blindly) is the United States and you can see the ramification of that support in a number of ways...

Mudcat and who ever has an open mind may want to check out this article....

It was was written by the dean of Harvard's Kennedy School or government and an esteemed professor at the University of Chicago. Of course this article barely even made mention in the mass media here other than the censure it received from the slave-like news media personalities.
