ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The Bus is rolling into the Hall of Fame.
Jerome Bettis, who retired after helping the Pittsburgh Steelers win the Super Bowl, will be the first inductee into the Celebrities Bowling Hall of Fame. The star running back will be enshrined during a June 28 fundraiser in Las Vegas by the International Bowling Museum & Hall of Fame.
Bettis has rolled a perfect 300 game in competition and wanted to become a professional bowler while growing up in Detroit. He maintains an average of more than 200.
"I have bowled my entire life and gained great pleasure and enjoyment from the sport," Bettis said. "This is a tremendous honor."
Bettis, who recently joined NBC as a football analyst, hosted a "Super Bowling Party" in Detroit during Super Bowl week for his foundation.
"No one has served the sport of bowling more effectively as a nonbowling industry participant than Jerome Bettis," said Jeff Boje, president of the Bowling Proprietors Association of America.
