Favre to announce his plans Saturday
i just can't see him retiring on a saturday morning at a charity golf tourey.

Packers' Favre to announce his plans Saturday morning
    April 7, 2006

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Brett Favre has scheduled a Saturday morning news conference, where he is expected to announce whether he'll return to play for the Green Bay Packers this season.

Becky Stuart, a personal assistant to the Favre family, confirmed that the news conference would be held at Favre's charity golf tournament in Tunica, Miss.

In a story in Friday's Green Bay Press-Gazette, Favre said that he told general manager Ted Thompson and head coach Mike McCarthy earlier this week that he may have a decision by the weekend or early next week.

``I want to do what's best, obviously, for me and my family,'' he said. ``But regardless of what people might think, I don't want to jeopardize the future of the team. I don't want to do that. I think that the people that know me, including those in the organization, know that.''

Favre, who spoke with the Press-Gazette reporter at his golf tournament, said he wouldn't want to play for anyone but the Packers, who finished 4-12 last season, Favre's only losing one in Green Bay.

The 36-year-old Favre, who would be entering his 16th season in the NFL, still feels he can play but said last season rattled his confidence a bit.

``I had a lot of chances to pull us out of the fire last year and I didn't do it,'' he said.

Favre said he wouldn't return just to collect his $10 million salary or to try to break more records. If that were the case, he said, he already would have made his decision.

``That's sort of my dilemma right now. If I felt like we really could compete for the Super Bowl, I would come back. Or am I coming back just to play and to have fun, and in the process maybe we lose,'' he said. ``Last year was no fun for the fans or for the players, and nobody wants to go through that again.''

Favre said he has concerns about the team's offensive line, which struggled last season after the departure of stalwart guards Mike Wahle and Marco Rivera to free agency.

``From a coach's standpoint, you have to say the right things, that we'll be competitive and we'll win, and I truly believe Mike McCarthy will do a fine job,'' he said. ``But really, what have we done to replace the guys that we've lost on the line?''

Favre said McCarthy isn't letting uncertainty about his star quarterback affect his preparation, which includes getting Aaron Rodgers, the team's first-round draft pick last season, ready to start.

Favre said his greatest dilemma is figuring out whether he can get up the energy to have fun, something he didn't have last season.

``It means something to come back and be there, but to come back and be that dominant player, which I wasn't last year. I never blamed it on other guys before and I won't do it now,'' he said. ``I don't want it to be like, 'At one time he was good. He should've retired. He stuck around one year too long.' That wouldn't be fair to anyone.''

Still no decision. What a putz.

Favre still hasn't decided whether to play next season

TUNICA, Miss. -- Brett Favre, one of the NFL's great quarterbacks, is still unsure if he will play another year with the Green Bay Packers.

"No change. I don't know, once again," he said at a brief news conference Saturday from the site of his charity golf tournament. "I don't know why you guys wasted a trip down here. The Packers and I will make a decision at some point soon."

It was Favre, however, who scheduled the news conference, and a personal assistant to the Favre family had said a "scoop" awaited. A Packers spokesman did not immediately return a call.

The 36-year-old Favre -- whose grit, durability and cannon arm have become his trademark -- is the NFL's only three-time MVP (1995-97).

"I know people are getting impatient," he said. "But enjoy baseball right now."
Brett Favre didn't clarify whether he would play for the Packers at a news conference Saturday morning.

The Packers should just cut him. He's not that good anyway. Not to mention, he's a little attention whore. He knows damn well he's coming back. You don't teter this long if you are retiring. Any bumps and bruises he had in the season have all healed by now so the age thing is not a concern

I'm a Colts fan, but thats what I admire about the Patriots. Because that is exactly what they'd do, they would just cut him. They are so ruthless and I love that. I hate the team but I agree with their business practices. If a player can no longer perform the way you want him too, you cut him no matter if he's been there 15 years. Of course, the Packers problem is they have no one to really step in there. Rogers won't work out, but oh well, I guess they will have to see for themselves.

i didn't think he would retire this morning.

i agree with TGO on this one. the packers should just cut him, get it over with. you can't build your team thru the draft with this guy playing head games like he is.

Im sure any QB out there can throw the INTs that he has been throwing the last few seasons. So they cant do no worse if they do drop him.

He's holding the Packer's franchise hostage. But does it really matter? The Packers sucked for 20 years before he came to Green Bay, and they will suck for the 20 years after he leaves. At least they had a dozen winning seasons in the middle.

I cant decide if i want him to retire or comeback. If he retires, i wont have to hear these analysts say he is a top 5 qb still, but if he returns, i can hear them call him a top 5 qb and put up horrible numbers again.

I was thinking more about this.

Is it possible Favre is taking this much time because he really wants to play, but not for the Packers. So, he tries to force their hand where they get sick of waiting, then cut him so he can sign some place else while still saving face with all the fans in Green Bay by not going public demanding a trade or something like that.

                          Just a thought.

I cant wait for any free agents who are considering signing with the packers to say that his in-decision was the reason they didnt sign.

For the love of GOD get out of the game and be done with it, man what an attention hound. If I hear one more comment about "the gunslinger" this year on TV I might pull the trigger myself.

The game he gave away the sack record to Strahan is the day I quit respecting this guy.
