Do you think game previews may be slanted to sway bettors?
I've wondered about this for years and I was just reading the preview for the Suns-Pacers game and I think it's heavily slanted towards the Suns:

Pregame analysis and predictions of the Phoenix Suns vs. Indiana Pacers NBA game to be played on February 27, 2011 on ESPN.

After I read that I was convinced the Suns would win BUT...

It's not a crazy conspiracy theory because look who wrote that preview, it's a company called "STATS, Inc.":

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STATS,_Inc.

Fox sports owns Stats Inc. and Fox sports is owned by News Corp. which has an "online gaming unit": http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-...03-706815.html I just spent some researching what the online gaming unit does but I couldn't find an explanation.

It doesn't matter because you know the same people who own Vegas own tons of stock in News Corp.

Why would "they" be steering us towards the Suns? Accuscore has the Pacers winning by an average of 6 points and the line is only Pacers -3 and that's just the kind of information Stats Inc. would know and use for the analyses, right?

I actually thought about this too, I feel better when i bet against who the preview thinks has the upper hand.

What kind of results do you get using that strategy?

I'm not sure if they are or not, but I always look at the predicted outcome on sportsnetwork before I place a big bet.

Years ago I used to read the MLB previews on Sportsline.com and go against the perceived lean. I didn't track it but the results seemed OK - not great. It took too much time so I stopped.

I think they do throw off your opinions

Sportsnetwork ones seem neutral and not for gaming purposes

Just consider that fact when you're watching Fox sports and ALL the ways they can sway people's opinions, before, during, and after a game.

The statement represents a HUGE conflict of interest but no one will do anything about it in this screwed up world.
