    NHL Overtime Point System
I was just wondering if everyone agrees with the point sharing system if a game goes to OT, where each team gets 1 pt then the winner gets the extra one.

I never thought it was a good idea, but there must be a reason why it's implemented.

Do any of you think there might be game fixing where teams agree to share points (kind of like in soccer when both teams agree on a draw)?

This is why the rule was originally implemented...teams were too afraid to lose a point...so they just played with no balls and were extremely defensive. That's why so many games ended in draws...no one went for the win.

Sometimes you can tell both teams seem to let up and play conservatively in the last few minutes of regulation time in order to guarantee that point.

It's a good idea though for sure because OT was pretty boring when there was ties back in the day as both teams usually were content to dump and chase until the buzzer went.

Lot of games go into OT closer to the end of the season for teams in the playoff hunt...
