    How to not handicap.
Sports betting and handicapping forum: discuss picks, odds, and predictions for upcoming games and results on latest bets.

Would it be cruel to count the number of bad ideas in this thread?

Settle for this one: these guys bet sides with advantages of 2.5 to 5.5, but SWITCH sides, and fade, at an advantage of 6.

So I guess, if you line shop carefully and find an extra half point, sometimes that would cause to bet against your pick.

Of course there's this beauty, where the poster is talking about KenPom's methodology:
"The math is way to hard to do if you didn't go to college for it. I took a look at it and there were many foreign things."

Which is brilliantly misunderstood, misread, whatever, by someone responding with this:
Hey TrapperDapper, I'm a fuking high school drop out, sorry the math was wrong, you probably never make a mistake, I don't need your fuking sarcasm.
If this is all you have to contribute, STFU

Another favorite: someone asking this question:
Is it acceptable to buy Ohio St. down to 3 pt dif? So from 26.5 to minus 25? That would qualify.

Yes, why not, if you're looking for X points advantage before betting, just buy X points.

Okay, okay, I'm being heartless and maybe snobbish, but in a way the gazillion threads that read like this one are amazing and depressing and fascinating, in a train-wreck kind of way.

I find the saddest thing on these forums is i'm sure people initially come to learn and improve their betting but are soon taken over by the hype, shortcuts and mathematical nonsense which makes constructive posts boring. Any thread that mentions old fashioned hard work gets zero replies.

Not to mention, anyone starting out who asks for basic advice usually gets slagged and treated like a freeloader. A think a lot of people start out willing to do the "old fashioned hard work" but find out the only ones who will give them answers are the scammers and touts.

Unfortunately this is the way it should be.

If you want to know how often a team in the NBA comes within 5 points of the closing line you deserve to be slapped in the face. Guys work hard to build databases and such to be able to find the answers to these kind of questions and many treat the think tank as a place to go to and get answers to all of your questions so that you do not have to do any hard work yourself.

I think these people start out willing to do the "old fashioned hard work" and than realize how hard it actually is and decide to go the easy route and hook up with the scamdicappers.

Consider the HTT face slap as a way to filter out the weak if guys want to be spoon fed they can go some where else.

Pokerjoe, most gamblers don't want to work, they just want the answer like cheaters on a high school test. That's the whole attraction of gambling. Earn money without work...... Let them fail, just as we did in high school.
