7-9 Playoff Team, We will see it this year.
    Its all but assured now.

Great year in the NFL, hope the Giants miss the playoffs. I'm sure football gods will make them pay.

Has a team ever started 0-5 or 1-6 and made the playoffs?

Sorry Jimmy, Niners are getting a home playoff game and Bucs are staying home for the playoffs.

If the people who hate American sports want a real example of how dysfunctional we can actually be

        It's the NFC West

I am clearly in the minority here...

But I just don't see this as a sign that Armageddon is upon us...

The Pats won 11 games a couple of years ago and missed the playoffs while teams with lesser (but not losing) records got in...

It's a statistical anomaly...not the end of civilzation.

Someone from the NFC West will get into the playoffs. They will host a game. They will, in all probability, lose. And I have it on very good authority the sun will rise the next day...

The winner of the NFC West SHOULD make the playoffs BUT SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO HOLD A HOME PLAYOFF GAME

with that being said...if St. Louis wins this week and Seattle losses, does St. Louis clinch the West???

I have no problem with changing the rules going forward...but everybody knew the rules when the season started...

You want a bye - win yourdivision and have one of the top two records...

You want a home game- win you division.

Disaster division, I see a team being 7-9, but that's how it goes.

If Seattle loses @ Tampa Bay this weekend, Tampa Bay will be 4-0 against the NFC West. At the very least make the NFC West winner play at Tampa Bay for a play-in playoff game on MNF heading into the wild card weekend.

i hope they do change the rules.

these teams are bad but certainly capable of winning at home.

it would be embarassing for the nfl to see the nfc west winner make a run in the playoffs.

but it would make for a great story.

Not only that but the 7-9 team is going to host a Saints team with probably 11 or 12 wins. Might see a DD playoff road favorite, for the first time I would assume.

this is the downside of 4 team divisions. This shouldn't be a surpise at all. any stats people can tell you that when you have 4/32 there's a chance that those 4 can be among the bottom 16. If the divisions were a higher percentage of the league then having a sub .500 team in the post season would be more unlikely. watch, this is going to happen again in the next 20 years barring any division realignment. deal with it.

Gotta go with Doc on this one. These are the rules by which we play.

Before now the worst record to have made the playoffs was an 8-8 Chargers i believe.

they won't beat Tampa. Actually, Tampa -6 looks like the best play on the board... in all sports.

Really don't care if a 7-9 or 8-8 team makes the playoffs. If you win your division you make the playoffs and host a playoff game, end of discussion.
