#39Wow.
OK, let me get this straight. She's suggesting you move to one of the most expensive states in the Nation so she can acquire and smoke pot legally. First off, in CA with a card, you can grow your own. It's free if you grow your own. It's a weed so it's REALLY hard to screw it up. Lived in CA all my life. Until 6 years ago, I even grew my own (and did so for over a decade) indoors, outdoors and even some guerilla growing. Easy to grow in your backyard without getting caught if you're smart about it and you can do it anywhere, no need to move. Plus, just because it's "legal" here doesn't mean it's cheap. It still costs alot in the shops.
Regarding this Pam chick. Sounds like several people I know. If you smoke pot several times a day you are doing it to cope, not as an enjoyment. Even when I grew it and had copious amounts I never smoked daily, just a few tokes a week. 5, 3 feet plants could last me through the year and then some (and that's with giving away more than I smoked). You'll get more than 1 ounce of dried bud per plant. With the 5, 3feet high plants (at harvest) you'll get about 6 or 7 gallon sized ziploc freezer bags full of buds.
This chick Pam is a pot addict. And yes, there is such a thing. Most are psychologically addicted, they can't get through the day without it. Some though have a physical addiction. A lot pot smokers believe addiction to pot is a myth. It's not. Similar to how not everyone who drinks becomes an alcoholic but some do. It's a matter of body chemistry. Some are just wired for it. I mean, suggesting to move so she can get her weed, that's an addict.
Pot does have certain benefits for certain ailments. But I bet she was smoking before these "ailments" came about.
Regarding the gambling aspects. Plenty of Indian casinos around in CA but none of them offer sports betting. You have to go to Nevada for that. But don't get busted for pot in Nevada. It ain't legal there even if you have a "card"; you will get busted.
My advice. Don't move, spend the money to detox Pam. She's not smoking for enjoyment, she's smoking out of habit and can't cope without it. If not, then grow your own, stop wasting money and creating risk by buying it.Comment -

#41I thought these dope growers were non-profit operations, in theory ?
Who makes the profits off of weed at like $15/ gram, or whatever it's being sold for ?Comment -

#42No, they are not non-profit. Some may be Co-ops. The profits are made by the "shop" and the growers.Comment -

#44Ok, Zulu. What type of elaboration do you want?
I was speaking from my own experience of being a pot smoker for over 20 years and being in that "culture" For the record, I haven't smoked pot for 3 years. Mainly because I have a 15 year old stepson and a baby. I'll probably pick it up again when the baby is in college or something. I am not anti-pot at all. I think that pot being illegal is absolutely ridiculous. I've just seen how it robs some people (not all) of motivation. So I'll refrain from having it around my kids if I can and I'll try to veer them away from using it until they are older. If they do, then I'll address it then. There's no way I can keep them completely away from it unless I lock them in a closet 24/7.
I have friends who were excellent students in high school even though they smoked everyday before school and at lunch and still do it 4 or 5 times a day and are very successful people. Even though they are successful I would still put them in the "addict" group, because they are. If they stopped for an extended period there would be an irritable adjustment period. Nor could they just stop doing it daily and do it only on the weekends or whatever. I also have friends who were good students in high school but once they started smoking pot, they lost their motivation. It goes both ways. Some people still stay motivated and some just lose the motivation. One thing I can vouch for is heavy pot smokers in general are more resistant to change than non-pot smokers.
Like alcohol, the more you use pot the more of a tolerance you build to it. I know this from experience as when I first starting do it in Jr. High, I did it alot. Then after awhile I realized I wasn't getting high anymore and I was smoking more and more to get an effect. I was skipping the high and going straight to stoned. What's the difference? High you still want to interact and are motivated to do things. Stoned, motivation to be active drops. Sometimes, that depends on what you're smoking. I've found Lebonese Red (hash) to be the best high available. I always wanted to go surfing or mountain biking after smoking it. I've also found that eating over smoking creates more of a "narcotic" effect and really slows you down. Anyways, the point.
When you smoke it more often, you need to smoke more for an effect and you lose the "High." You just get stoned. Also, EVERYONE I know, who does it 4 or 5 times a day is very irritable when they miss a "session." They aren't doing it as an enjoyment but more of a routine. When the pot smoking is a requirement and not an option, that's addiction. And let me tell you. A LOT of smokers out there where it's a requirement say it's an option. If that's the case stop for 30 days. They'll see just how much of an option it is. I won't say it will be tough. It's the easiest addiction to control. But it won't be easy as they think.
Of course, most pot smokers would disagree. Those who know them, would tend to agree.
Let me know if you need more clarification zulu, although I thought it was pretty clear to begin with.Comment -

#45Snowball, yeah, it's like that here in Cali, too. Anything under an ounce as long as it's in the same baggie is just a ticket. If it's in mulitple bags then it becomes intent to distribute. Smoking it in public is fine as well.
The championship parade for the SF Giants was almost a pot smoking fest. It smelled like a convention of skunks. :-)Comment -

#46Doug,
also it's a time consuming process to manicure and cure the pot. Manicuring is a tedious process. Manicuring is where you snip away all the leaves so it's just the bud. And it takes a while to dry the pot. The slow cured pot is the most smooth. All this work isn't done free.
There's less money as profit than from when they were growing illegally because now their overhead is higher. They need to pay the staff, pay rent, pay licensing fees, etc. But they are still making money off it. Just not as much and the prices you pay are still pretty much in the same range.Comment -
