    NCAA Basketball 2nd half
Does anybody have a theory as to why the 2nd half scoring is so high compared to the 1st half?

Not a theory but 2nd halfs you have alot of garbage points at the end of the game with FT's and easy uncontested layups when a team is up not trying to foul to give team a 3 point play

thats why a total on a CBB game if its say 144 the 1st half is usually half of 144 then -4 which would make it around 68 for the 1st half

The first 10 minutes or so of the game tend to be a feeling-out period. The pace of the game isn't quite what it is later on, and shooters haven't gotten into a rhythm yet.

Also, you have free throws at the end of a game and teams that are behind become more desperate and the use of the shot clock goes out the window.

Even in games without the fouling at the end the the totals are almost always much higher on the second half. Often 20+ points more. Maybe the rythym answer is better but than I don't get why in the NBA this is not the case.
