Heard a lot of great reviews...especially for Bale's acting performance. How was the rest of the cast like Amy Adams and Melissa Leo who I believed played Wahlberg's wife...not sure on that one.

Really like the look of this movie. Was waiting for the reviews to come out. Will definitely go see it this weekend. Wahlberg has really come a long way in his career. Very impressive.

I'm looking forward to this too. To sidetrack a bit, though...

It really brings you back to the days when boxing was worth watching - the decent fights ESPN use to have each week with guys like Ward.

IMO boxing is great to watch now, it's just difficult to find it. Last Saturday was incredible, and this Saturday has some excellent fights too. It's not that there aren't great fights happening, the problem is that they're all on stations most Americans don't receive (HBO, Showtime, telefutura, etc.).

Saw this last night. Maybe I'm in the minority, but this movie did nothing for me. Wahlberg is good, but Bale's performance is way over the top -- constantly mugging for the camera and dancing all over the place like a clown. I know what he was going for, but some subtlety would have been nice, it's almost like he was pushing for an Oscar with the performance!

Amy Adams is really good though -- she captured Boston white trash the best of them all. (I'm from here and know people from Lowell, so I say this with a decent amount of authority.)

Basically, this is just too Hollywood a version of the story. Everything is embellished a little too much, everything is played for laughs -- it's not at all realistically done in my opinion. The pacing is off too, it felt like it was dragging a lot to me.

Would have been better in another director's hands. Like Darren Aronofsky, who made The Wrestler. Every second of that rang true -- here, no. Too bad, I know Wahlberg worked for years to get this movie made.

Just got back from seeing this myself and loved it.. Im a huge Mikey Ward fan and was at the first fight against Gotti hear in Connecticut. Def worth checking out

Saw it tonight, was not too impressed. Some good music, especially the hidden gem of the RHCP "Strip my Mind"

Overall i was expecting to SEE the Gatti fight in the film, but no such luck.

Ha ha! Just got back from seeing the fighter tonight. I was supposed to see it last week but had no free time. Anyway the film was well done. Wahlberg did a fine job and the portrayal of Mickey Ward and his brother Dicky Eklund was excellent. Best boxing movie since the Rocky films. I found myself rooting for the guy the whole movie. What makes the movie though is the way it catches your heart. The battle with addiction that Dicky Eklund struggled with. Detailed family troubles throughout Ward's career. If you haven't seen it I highly suggest you take a break and get out to go. It's worth the ticket price and the two hours.

I saw it last week and I didn't think it was that great. Maybe its because I'm to young for these fights and have never followed boxing though.

I guess it was more interesting to me because I followed boxing up until the come up of MMA I also remember watching both Dicky Eklund and Micky Ward fights. The fact that it's a true story also makes for a more interesting storyline. Everyone has their own opinions of entertainment. I enjoyed the movie.
