I know it very well. It all depends what part of LA. It is huge and very diverse from one area to the other. It's huge and you will need some kind of direction on where you want to go. Everything is so spread out. They have the worst traffic in the world on the 405 South in the evening and weekends. The 110 south and the Pamona freeway can be terrible as well.. Parts of LA are very nice and worth seeing. Most of LA is a shithole and nothing good about it. That is why all the stars are getting the hell out of that shithole and moving to my area, a little further north. Just listen to this song, tells you all about LA and what should happen to it. No joke.

It depends what you want to do and see on your visit. Traffic is shit as Illini said - used to take me close to an hour to get from Santa Monica to Beverly Hills for work and it's a very, very short distance. Public transportation is almost non existent and the little that does exist will make you wet your pants. I guess if you're going to go to Disneyland or want to look at movie star houses or something then it'd be worth a visit. I'm really not sure why else someone would go there to be honest.
