    Soccer Fans; Question?
Is it true that when players score against their old teams/clubs, they don't celebrate out of respect?

I have heard this and I think it is very cool/gentlemanly. But I'm not sure if it is true...

depends on how well they were liked at the former club, have seen some players rub in the fans when they score cos they werent liked but most of them dont show much emotion they just celebrate with their team mates and no emotions to the crowd esp if they score the end which has his former fans in

Most players do that yes unless like gemoka said they weren't liked or left the club in bad terms

They still celebrate but not as exuberant unless the player left on bad terms.

usually it is true, even if some players (as Ibrahimovic) changed so many clubs that they can't

interesting. so Wayne Rooney wouldn't celebrate if he scored on Everton, but Tevez would celebrate if (when) he scored on United?

I think it's pretty cool and never really noticed this before until someone pointed it out-refreshing to see this kind of respect in sports especially when I'm used to seeing guys celebrate like they've won the Super Bowl after they tackle a guy on a four yard gain while their team is down by two TD's in the 4th quarter...

Not sure about rooney he still says he loves Everton, Tevez no idea. Dont reall watch the PL to be honest
Its more prevalent in the lower leagues

Steve Howard scored the other week for Leicester against Derby and he didnt celebrate much then as he used to play for the Rams

I think Carlos Tevez celebrated his goals versus Manchester United Depends on the player and situation.

most famous case is when Adebayor almost caused a riot when he scored against Arsenal and ran the whole field to celebrate right in front of the Arsenal away fans

But yeah, depends on the circumstances. David Villa against his former club Sporting Gijon which he played almost all his career in, I think he apologized after scoring a penalty against them

It in fact depends of how well the players was treated in former team and why he leave and how.

Some players that really respect their former team in first game against them most of times don't celebrate.

But if he was kicked or just transferred, cause he was problematic, he may celebrate to show former team they made a mistake selling him!

Not from a goal, but you get the point it can go both ways.

Showing respect or disrespecting the team.

Interesting note Rooney said his kids gonna support Everton and Man United.
