Getting bored with the regular season

I'm not so sure, all 8 divisions have a decent race going on should be a very exciting last 5 weeks

I do like the 18 games idea. That makes it 20 weeks of NFL football season plus playoffs. It sure makes it better than having pre season games to watch!

games mean everything now, many teams cannot afford to lose too many

The preseason is necessary, but not 4 games of it.
