#19I havent counted recently but I thought there were about 25 or 30 bowls leaving a few teams out of the mix
The more the merrier, college football supports all the other school sports that wouldn't survive without crappy bowl games
It's the best time of the year ... watching crappy bowl gamesComment -

#21All the bowls are "Trap Games" so let's place an Over/Under on how many times we hear this BS during the bowl season.
Over has to be favored....big time.Comment -

#30When I become sports czar of the world, one of first things I'm going to do is cut the number of bowl games in half and mandate that they all be played no later than Jan. 1. We all agree: the current setup is beyond ridiculous.Comment -

#31The bowl games for these 6-6 games become important since they get 15 extra practices that if they are a young team they need. If you are bitching about too many bowls or too many teams in bowls you probably don't really like college football all that much anyhow.Comment -

#33If you have a kid it's been that way for 10-15 years.... They everyone gets a trophy mentality. Here in VA next year they have divisions and 16 out of 21 teams will make the "playoffs" in each division. 2-8 and the post-season here we come.Comment -

#34I like having all these games. It's good to see the major conferences have to play decent non-conf opponents instead of the cupcakes and FCS-ers they schedule every year.
What I don;t like is how ESPN and others cheer for meaningless accomplishments like "Team X is going to their 5th straight bowl." WOW! They never let the young'ns know that there were times we didn't have over 30 games - or over 20 - or over 10.
In the 50s and part of the 60s --- there were the big 4 - Rose,Sugar, Cotton, Orange - along with the Gator and Sun and then maybe a couple others like the Tangerine for the smaller programs. Back then, it was a big deal. Pretty much only major conference champs or top independents went to a bowl - unless it was a BigTen repeat champ in which case they went nowhere because the Big 10 had a rule that said "can't go to Rose bowl in consecutive years" and if no Rose Bowl, then no bowl at all for the Big10 champ. The runner-up got to go.
A few more in the Gator,Sun range started in the 60s - but just a few. It probably wasn't until the 80s that the number of games reached 20.Comment -
