#2If the value of our treasuries is so low, why do the Chinese keep buying them? How can the video say the dollar will be inflated, yet inflation is very low now?[B][B]They key isn't getting rich quick. The key is getting rich slowly, and enjoying it.

#6The dollar is up 5% vs. the Euro since QE2 was announced. Inflation expectations are being trumped by growth expectations, not to mention the Eurozone is doing an exceptionally poor job of dealing with their first recession. And to think, there are some Republican fools in Congress who want the Fed to be more like the European Central Bank. Another example of the Republicans trying to destroy America to save it.Comment -

#8I saw this the other day. The day(s) of reckoning for the dollar will come sooner or later.
Paper backed with nothing but the force of government and its laws can't last and ridiculous amounts of money creation only mean that day will come a lot faster.Comment -

For an important measure of this look at the Dollar vs Gold & Silver.
As far as being more like the European Central Bank - F*ck no! - we don't need any central bank.Last edited by RonPaul2008; 11-26-10, 03:59 AM.Comment -

#18There is a solution. It involves changing our standard of living. Change is coming, if we were truly a "great" nation, we would recongnize that and embrace those changes. Since we are a nation "united" only by the love of cash our days as a superpower are numbered.Comment -

#20A dollar collapse isn't going to happen. The US financial system is too entrenched in the world economy. If they go down the rest of the world does as well. You would see China, EU, IMF etc. all step in to alleviate the crisis.
The most likely scenario is the continual devaluation of the dollar over the coming years due to the trade/budget deficit. The effects will most likely see China gradually stop buying treasury debt and move into real assets, somewhat akin to what the japanese did to you during the 80's. This does not mean that the dollar will be worthless it will simply have less purchasing power vs. other currencies.
The concern right now has to do with deflation hence why QE2 was enacted. The general level of fear mongering, apocalyptic thinking and polarization that I've seen in the US recently is cause for concern. The potential slashing of budgets, tax levels and spending in general by the US GVT, while done with good intentions in mind by people who are irked at corruption, will only exacerbate the deflationary problem. I would take some inflation rather than slide into another great depression.Comment -

A dollar collapse would devastating for the entire world. China needs the (comparatively wealthy)U.S. consumers more than their own Chinese consumers. That might be a slight exaggeration, but not really.
What would happen if the U.S. stopped buying German, Korean and Japanese autos and electronics? Stopped taking expensive vacations? Stopped buying diamonds and other extravagances? The world can't afford to find out.Comment -
