Mike Davis is the next coach that will probly quits this year, and he should.

You know your doing a bad Job when you can recruit the top high school players in your own state.

I have followed Indiana basketball my entire life and I would be shocked if he is on the IU sideline next year. He should have been fired last year.

he made a comment eariler in the week, about Indiana hiring one of his own.

Davis would have never got the fulltime coach gig at Indy, if he didn't make the final 4 that year. he needs to be fired !!

That's a tough place to coach unless you have a commanding personality.

i wonder who they will bring in there to replace Davis. bob huggins and rick majarist are available out there right now, so maybe they offer this job to one of those guys.

The problem with Davis is that he can't recruit. Great high school players in Indiana went other colleges such as Ill, Ohio St and Duke. Knight rarely failed to recruit an Indiana kid.

Hopefully the next coach will keep these guys at IU.

Don't expect IU to improve anytime soon. There are serious problems at that university that goes way beyond Mike Davis.

I doubt any decent coach would jump at the chance to coach at IU. The university isn't committed to being a top flight sports school anymore. It distracts from their academic goals, supposedly, according to the board of regents or whatever.

I was on the IU campus when coach Knight was ousted. I have zero doubt that coach Knight would have taken a title or two with that team. That was the best collection of talent that he ever had. He even says so in his book.

Personally, I think they fired coach Knight before he got a chance at another championship or two, as he would have been become too bulletproof after that. At the end, it was literally IU brass v.s. IU basketball. In a lot of ways, coach Knight took a bullet for his team allowing them as much stability as possible with #1 assistant Mike Davis taking over. The IU brass would have preferred to put some kowtowing schmuck in place, but I guess they allowed Davis as an offering so that coach Knight would leave peacefully. Coach Knight even had to come out and calm down the students who were poised to riot after the news of the firing broke. You could have cut that tension with a knife.

Coach Knight was very well loved on the IU campus, except by the eggheads running the university. Probably because coach Knight had a reputation that was bigger than the university itself, in a lot of ways.

Brilliant insight into IU by Slacker. He has pinpointed the problem. It is not Mike Davis necessarily, it is the administration that refuses to hire the type of coach needed in that part of the country to properly handle a position at that high a level. They can change Mike Davis, and they surely will, but unless the administration is changed Indiana will cease being a top flight basketball program.

Indiana Basketball, a second-tier program? I'm not sure that will be handled well in the heartland.

Going from Iowa to Indiana isn't an upgrade.

Maybe many years ago, if things had happened much differently, it might have been possible. I remember there being a lot of buzz about it. But, I doubt Alford is eager to jump ship at Iowa, plus jumping into the Indiana bughouse isn't real tempting either. IMO, Indiana would have to really beg Alford, and I don't think they're willing to do that anyway.

We'll really learn the intentions of the IU administration by watching how they effort to bring Alford back to IU. I definitely think he will listen to IU's offer.
