The Associated Press is reporting that the New Jersey Devils have released a statement confirming the death of former NHL coach Pat Burns.

    November 19, 2010 – 6:47 pm
Pat Burns, who went from tough-as-nails police officer to one of the best defensive coaches in NHL history, died Friday after a long battle with cancer.
    He was 58.
Burns, a native of Montreal’s hardscrabble St-Henri district, won 501 games in 15 seasons as an NHL coach with the Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils, which he led to the 2002-03 Stanley Cup title in his first season with the club.

Poor guy. Just a few months ago, reports came in that he went to the hospital, or that he was critically ill. The next day, he had a phone interview with TSN's Bob McKenzie and clarified that he was still "alive and kicking" and that he'd be around for a while.

                                          Unreal

I remember as a young boy watching HNIC. I loved it. I always looked forward to it. Late at night, stole the kitchen tv and took it to my room. Rigged an antenna, watching CBC. Patty Burns I always remember. Patty was a great coach and we will miss him.

Nicky those pictures are unreal. I can't even believe it. So sad.

                                          RIP Patty Burns.
