well, lets see about that. Since 1923 when they won their first championship through 2009 when they collected their 27th championship, that's 86 years of baseball and 85 champions crowned. No champion in 1994 due to earthquake.

27 / 85 = 31.76% of the last 85 champions that were crowned. Just a smidge short of a third. I'd say buying championships is very successful considering the closest team to that number over the same span is St Louis with 10.

and Yankess hate is rampant due to the disparity and rightfully so. No sport needs a spending cap worse than baseball. It's ridiculous.

40 / 85 = 47.06% of the time they have played for a championship in the last 85. Damn near half. Yankee hate is very JUSTIFIED for their spending advantages!

The Yankees make the playoffs virtually every year and you don't attribute that to their spending habits? They spend the most money in baseball and they have won more titles than any other team, I don't see how you can possibly argue that their ability to buy the best players makes them the best team in baseball more often than anyone else.

That's like saying Paris Hilton is famous because she's so talented.
