Ohio State Buckeyes might be an immortal deadbolt lock! +500

OSU is quietly recruiting a mega team. They are poaching the top players from many other top programs. They are freaking loaded with talent. Ryan Day is in a must win now mode. They opened up the coffers and buying players by the boat load.

Michigan and Bama both will take a hit without Harbaugh and Saban. It doesn't seem possible the Buckeyes don't make the playoffs and may be able to hedge a game.

$100 to win $500 or $1,000 to win $5,000 seems like a good bet, even though I don't like to hold my money up for so long.

I'm not sold on Day regardless of the talent. It will help that Harbaugh is gone though. He will now have a chance to beat UM. I'm not sold on him in general though so no thanks!

You are forgetting the fact that the Big 10 won't be so pathetic anymore that 99% of their schedule are basically byes. They will actually have to play 3 or 4 teams with the same talent as them. No more playing teams in the conference championship that have no business being in any conference championship game.

I totally agree on Day. He's had good talent and still couldn't win the big one but I love picking up Bill O'Brien. He will most likely keep Day in line. That plus the talent they have. I really don't see O'Brien screwing up a stacked roster.

The 4 western teams joining the Big 10 are pretty much losing a lot of talent, especially the QBs. I don't trust Gabriel or Moore coming to Oregon. Who's going to replace Caleb Williams at USC or Michael Penix JR. I don't believe in Will Rogers. Garbers at UCLA... haha. OSU is heads and shoulders above all of them. Michigan is losing most of their dynamic lines and Harbaugh. OSU will be favored in every game next year. Even if they lose a game or even 2, with this new alignment, they should still get in the playoffs. By then, that team should be clicking on all cylinders. Bama will be down, same for Michigan. Georgia is really the major threat. That's where we hedge.

Will the QB be Cam Ward?

Heard this stuff on the Pat McAfee show. To Mac's point, the Ohio St alums are saying "No more bullshit." Three straight losses to Mich.

For Day to save his job, he has to beat Michigan at a minimum. And make headway in the ncaa playoffs.

Well OSU offense wasn't much this year Mac. They lost their QB, who wasn't that good anyways. I haven't been paying attention to anything but I am assuming they won't have basically their whole offense in Marvin Jones Jr anymore so it isn't like they will be in any better position than anyone else IMO.

The OSU Alums have reached in their pockets and are not playing fair anymore. They are paying out tens of millions for the top recruits. It's insane. No one is out paying the Bucks. Even CJ Stroud just gave them a few million to recruit. Trust me when I say, most people do not know how stacked they are right now. That line is coming down in the next few months. Get it now.

Ohio State’s recruiting success continues with the commitment of Class of 2025 five-star cornerback Na’eem Offord. The Buckeyes dipped into the SEC footprint for Offord, who plays at Parker High School in Birmingham, Ala.
He is ranked No. 5 overall and the No. 1 cornerback in the class in the 247Sports Composite. He is the eighth commitment in Ohio State’s 2025 class and the second five-star prospect.

Georgia and Ohio State will be the clear top 2 favorites to begin next year. It was a shock that 5 of OSU's best players are coming back instead of opting for the NFL. Add the 2 Bama transfers and Howard from KSU and Judkins from Ole Miss if Day doesnt get to the NC game and beat Michigan he will be gone for sure.
Texas and Ole Miss are probably the biggest threats to Georgia and OSU next year.

Mac, I think +500 would be value. Was listening to Joel Klatt. Eleven Buckeyes turned down NFL to come back.

Ohio St did acquire DB Downs from Alab. And I do think the addition of OC Chip Kelly will help the offense.

Coll FB is still very top-heavy. The top 4 to 6 teams are very likely to make the top 12. Has to be a big year for the Buckeyes with MICH in transition.

I think OSU should be the fav. The only thing is when then play a team down in the deep south. They have not done it yet. This year would be the year tho.

I'm forming opinions on these teams. GEO/OhioSt stick out as the top two.

    I believe Oreg/Tex are being over-hyped:
*Nix to Gabriel is not a lateral move. Gabriel's arm strength is not good, Nix had been groomed to succeed.
*Tex off a huge year. Too much name recognition. And they'll miss DT Sweat.

The teams that are moving to a new conference will be in all new territory. Well at least the teams that are going to The Big what ever they call it now. If one team could it is Oregon. They have the line to match up with the Big Ten or 13?

Buffalo, I'm reserving judgment on that one. See my comment on Nix vs Gabriel.

I've watched a lot of game tape. Nix had so many starts, he was very well-schooled. His accuracy was hard to defend.

I saw Gabriel struggle in the wind @Kansas. That wasn't a good look. People already have Gabriel as one of the Heisman front-runners. Mark my word. I don't think he'll be nearly as effective as Nix.

Line is down to +375 in some shops. I really like OSU because of their favorable schedule. They have relatively easy games before their 3 big games. That gives them time to rest up. Georgia's schedule is pretty ridiculous. They could easily lose a couple games with that schedule. I expect the SEC to beat up on each other and fade late in the playoffs. I don't expect SEC teams to go undefeated. OSU should have a great shot. They are all or nothing this season. They're taking no prisoners.

I like the 12-team format. Will list three longshots that have a decent chance to Make the Playoffs:
    *Nebraska
    *VA Tech
    *USC

That's why they play the games, man. I didn't say they were > 50%. It's a game of odds, those teams are all +500 or higher.

*Nebraska is going to be improved. Rush DEF is very tough. QB play will be miles better.

*VA Tech brings back almost their whole team. Is there an ACC team that comes up lame? Clem/MiaFL/FlaSt, I think each one is capable of coming up short.

*USC is more of addition by subtraction. I think Williams was disliked by his teammates. The QB play will be good, and the Defense can only get better.

Also, 12 teams creates so many more possibilities. More like qualification in the NFL. At four teams, the field of contenders was very narrow.

Yes. I like this time of year. There's anticipation for the season.

The 12 teams make for interesting discussion on the lower half. I'll throw in a few more possibilities, and these are just my opinion:

*TEXAS A&M has a real chance to be on the fringe. They have the exact game they'd want in the opener. Home game vs a name opponent. Win it and you'll be in the top 18. Elko is going to improve the coaching. Maybe the $$ got to Jimbo, I thought he was awful last year. Veteran team, will be dangerous if the QB stays healthy.

*WISCONSIN will have a much better QB (imho). Mordecai disappointed, a healthy Van Dyke is much better. WIS always has Off Linemen and RBs. Second-year under Fickell, and I think that's a good thing.

*If you want a team that could have a huge record but still be outside the top 12, look @ FresnoSt. I wrote up on them. The games they lost the L2 years were mostly b/c of QB injuries. The team looks solid, and they upgraded the Def Line with Transfers. Schedule looks very light, I could see them getting to 10-2.

I'm not sold on Ohio State because of their schedule.
First three games they scheduled two mediocre MAC teams and Marshall, that should be good for a 3-0 start.

However, their remaining schedule is chock full of landmines.
Oregon could beat them in Eugene, the early line on that game is a pick.
The Penn State Game in Happy Valley opener is -4.
The Michigan game, the last game of the regular season could go either way.

OSU should handle Sparty, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, and Northwestern, but some of those opponents are very proud programs and will not rollover, I expect an OSU brain fart in one of those games.

I think Oregon is a better value at +1000, and I'm hardly a Duck fan.

Nashy, it's that time of year. Opinions are formed, and then they play the games.

    1) If PennSt doesn't make the playoffs this year, Franklin should really think about moving on. They have to supplant MICH this year.

    2) Ditto on OhioSt vs MICH. If Day can't beat MICH this year, he should think about moving on.

    3) I won't be sold on Oreg (for now). Oregon was VERY close to being in the Final 4 and then the Final game. I watched enough Nix tape to be fully sold on him.

    4) Indiana gained A TON of transfers with the new coach. They really should be improved. IND will surely be an upset candidate this year.

    5) I've mentioned NEB as one of the most improved teams. They're getting a lot of buzz. I could see them having a Top 12 statistical defense. They haven't been to a bowl in years. This is the year they return to relevance.

If you buy into poster "OldBill" then his theory of the Marc Lawrence Cover Curse applies to the Buckeyes and Tide. Both are in the quad box on the 2024 cover.
