Phil Mickelson - going thru Gambling Rehab

    https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id...ootball-season
Seems like a relevant link. Some juicy details. Looks like he bet a TON...and lost a bunch.

    1) I know he used to have a lot of information. Eg: he could name every NFL long-snapper.
    2) Phil mentions that he had the finances to deal with the losses. So, sounds like it was for the action. And it pulled him away from Family time.
    3) One thing surprises me. Did he ever IMPROVE as a gambler? The answer to that is seemingly NO.

Ha-ha. The stories have been out there for a long time.

I admit I didn't quite now how many Zeroes there were to the right. If you believe the Billy Walters stat, he must have been a huge Fish to ROI to -10%. That's DOUBLE the edge against a coin-flipper.

Imagine BOOKING this guy. Ooh-la-la. Fish WITH deep-pockets.

A lot of them with more money than God with a gambling problem.

    Phil Ivey
    Floyd Merriweather
    Brent Musburger
    The list is endless

    Nice list:

*I've watched Phil Ivey videos. Yes, skilled poker player.
...But I don't think he's as well-studied as some of the young Online players. Have seen him donk-away $$ at Casino games, and he just writes it off.

*I'm a big Brent Musberger fan.
...Goes way back as I watched him commentate so many big games.
...Have met him a couple times. Great guy.
...But same thing as above. Imagine BOOKING Brent. Guy with deep-pockets. I'd have to imagine he could easily bet $10,000 to $20,000 per game and not think twice about it.

Al Michaels drop a couple of dimes on the ponies on a regular basis too.
    He loves Santa Anita.

I'm told Al is a sharp handicapper.

I agree on both of your points, but it's a pretty slow sports Monday evening, it makes for good chit chat.

And if you think about it the very essence of these here sports boards/forums is good chit chat.

He used to talk about this. Yes, at a minimum he's knowledgable on horses and studies the card.

Many years ago, Shoemaker was riding in the Derby. His ride was 17/1. Al had a great line in pre-race:
"Used to be that you couldn't get Shoemaker at 17/1 if he was on the back of Mr Ed."

Two minutes later, it was one of the Derbies that Shoemaker won. Nice payday.

Phil Mickelson commented on his $6,000,000 donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, their largest donation ever. “People think money is the root of all evil…they're wrong. Every church asks for donations on Sunday. I'm just able to have a greater impact on the world now.”Jul 25, 2023

Can you have a gambling "problem" if you win? Or is it only a problem if you lose?

And don't tell me everyone loses eventually. Nahhhh.
