Fair comment. I could see why Payton wouldn't be interested. I was looking at it more from the Denver side.

They have so much $$ stuck on that Wilson contract. Surely, they want to figure out a way to make this guy productive.

Imagine a scenario where a HEAD COACH's salary could approach that of a starting QB. That could be Payton in Denver.

Chucky, not only will no team trade for that contract, Denver almost certainly can't cut him in the next couple of years due to massive cap hits. I read that if they cut him before next year, he would count for something like $107 million dead cap hit in 2023.

Need to dump that entire Denver coaching staff. Offensive coordinator especially. Trying to make Wilson a drop back in pocket passer was a joke. Should have worked Wilson how Pete in Seattle did. Run and gun.

Denver tried to make Wilson change his entire skill set. It didn't work out!

Polo, that's a great point. The reclamation job in Denver is a massive one.

If I'm Payton's agent, one way to look at it:
1) If he turns around the Broncos (and Russ)...Payton = Miracle Worker.
2) If it blows up...it's on Russ. And Payton's name will still have enough credit to get the NEXT JOB.

In the meantime, cash them Checks. And $100 Shopping sprees at Walmart.
