He actually would fit well in Shanahan's system, with constant roll outs, bootlegs. But once the defenses tighten in the second half, he'd be in trouble.

But I watched a lot of Purdy in college. He is terrible. If he plays well long term, I'd be shocked. And if so, it would make his college coach look real bad since he was bad in most of the big games they played.

Purdy certainly and most definitely was not terrible at Iowa St. I bet on them as dogs a lot when he was there. Certainly no superstar but far from terrible.

In 2019 and 2021 he was actually pretty dang good

Of course, there's the experience factor. At least some skill dropoff, I would think.

Sometimes, if the personnel is set up to succeed AROUND the QB...the QB change doesn't matter too much. I'll have eyes open on what the Niner lines look like.

If they get Mayfield, won't it only be for the league minimum?
If so, 49ers 100% should pick him up, even if it turns out he is playing behind Purdy.
They have no #2 QB right now.

I'm a Niners fan and I'm glad they didn't even go anywhere near Baker. He's a bust and I'd rather have Josh Johnson as the backup to Purdy which says a lot about Baker.
