    Q about Baseball grading wagers…
My buddy is telling me he had no hits in some inning last night (Cinci?) where it went strike out, fly out then third batter hits it off the wall and gets thrown out at second….3 outs-inning over.

his bet is graded as a Loss. They say because he touched first base it was a hit.
    I say nfw….
*”They”=guy answering phone at sports app he’s using.

anyone able to shed some light on this subject?

Your buddy sounds like an idiot. It is still a hit. Shouldn’t even be a question. MLB gave him a hit in the stats. What is even being questioned here?

      From MLB.com:

A hit occurs when a batter strikes the baseball into fair territory and reaches base without doing so via an error or a fielder's choice. There are four types of hits in baseball: singles, doubles, triples and home runs. All four are counted equally when deciphering batting average. If a player is thrown out attempting to take an extra base (e.g., turning a single into a double), that still counts as a hit.

cecil, honestly your friend should not be betting baseball if he doesn't know that.

i don't bet soccer really cause i am not familiar with a lot of the rules.

So if a guy throwing a no hitter has one smashed off the wall and the batter gets thrown out at second trying for two the no hitter goes down the drain? I did not know that…

thanks and yes, my buddy is a degenerate retread and idiot just like most of us reading along…

Of course it's a hit. Look at the box score.
