I will never understand why they run to first base when a position player is running in obvious foul territory waiting for the foul ball to land in their glove for the out. Even if the position player doesn't catch the ball for the out, it's still a foul ball and the batter gets another chance to bat...why even run to first base???

JJ, help me out here, baldy. I heard you're an expert in this.

I do believe if it hits his glove and bounces fair then it's a fair ball

It is where the ball is when it touches the player. That is a foul ball.

Players are taught to run to first base in case wind would blow it fair.

When you’re a bat a lot of the times they don’t even know they hit so many high balls, some can blow back so they run

I feel the same way JMobile.... but what my Little League coach told me... don't give your brain a chance to calculate every situation (you're wasting time)... you run to first base no matter what.

Could blow fair too. Better safe then sorry. Pirates just demote guy who didn’t run out a fair one that ended as a double play

Would you want to be the guy that thought it was a foul and wasn't and it cost your team the game! If you did it a 1000 times and it didn't matter, that one time would make it worth it

Exactly. Watching on TV you may have a better idea as to where it is than the hitter initially. If they aren't 1000% sure and it's anywhere close, it's their job to go. If they don't and it lands fair the shame lasts forever.

There are too many who "dog it" during the game. Don't run out a contested grounder or breeze on a fly ball.

Ball is going to the foul stands and player goes for a chase, stops to say hi to a fan, and batter is walking back to the batter's box. Lol

Running to 1st base for no reason on a pop foul shows hustle. It's a good look to the coaches and fans.

Was it cuz Harper didn't hustle on a fly ball to the outfield or hustle on a foul ball out???

And why do goalies insist on taking a drink of water every time they allow a goal? My favorite was Mike Smith allowing 3 goals in under a minute and rushing to take a drink after every one.
