Gotta be an all time avg of .100 shot almost NEVER and I mean Never works out. I often find myself watching a game and before the AB starts I’m like “Don’t swing at the first pitch” Often times they do and it’s just a soft grounder or a fly out.

That’s a good article. Some guys have no business swinging at the first pitch. Molina is obviously an exception. Guy has been around forever and is a catcher. Keep in mind this data comes from the same school of data that said to pull Blake Snell in the World Series.

I’ve long been driven crazy about bans here. I don’t think there should be bans unless it’s something completely outrageous. I get banned for stuff that is completely insane and not even close to ban worthy. A lot of hitters try to ambush the first pitch fastball these days. A few guys are pretty good at it. They think it’s the best pitch they will see. I never took notice how much it works out. There has to be a stat….they have a stat for fuxvking everything. Originally Posted by KiDBaZkiT

Hitters now 0-4 on first pitch. I get the “best pitch you are gonna see” logic, but not with Mike Minor on the mound. There is a time and a place. I feel first time through the order nobody should ever swing at the first pitch. Guy on 2nd in a 2 run game, gotta make him throw a few pitches. Especially since KC bullpen nothing to write home about.

1-6 now. That one hit made sense though cuz you had a guy coming out of the bullpen you were only going to see one time who obviously was coming in to throw strikes and get out of the inning as soon as possible.

I read the article Laker posted. Said basically the same thing. They need to break it down more. What is the avg. on first pitch swings from starting pitchers vs relievers/closers? I’ve been bitching about it for years. When I have an under I always want the swing at first pitches. Plus, I don’t know if I even believe that stat. There is a time and a place. When your Catcher works a 7-8 pitch walk in the first inning with two outs in late August and has to have heavy legs and your a struggling Andrew Benintendi, you don’t just flail at the first pitch and immediately end the inning.
