Only time I tipped was I used to see the same Latino kid working at the book at them Peppermill and I would always ask him during playoffs and prime time games “Who’s everybody bettin on?” He always steered me in the right direction. He hasn’t worked there for many years and that particular casino no longer has a sportsbook

When at Castaways think we had 7 cashiers/writers that split tips weekly....it averaged about $14 a week for each individual........and this was an extremely busy sportsbook that received about $100 a week TOTAL in tips, there ya go.

tipping a window teller?? I only tip poker dealers when i win a huge pot, or a jackpot or something big.
Why would you tip on winnings?
Why do we constantly feel the need to tip? I understand tipping for services well done that we can't do ourselves; cutting hair, a good experience at a restaurant (not anymore cause of covid protocols) , your delivery guy that brought the pizza hot, a good elaborate drink at a bar or coffee shop, the bagger who carefully separated my eggs from my cans (pushing it) .......but when does it end? the teller at the bank??? pleeeasseee, they're trained to do this...
at some fkn point , the burden should fall on the employer to keep employees happy.
all that said, Im a big tipper when I deem the service top notch but it's getting out of hand

i tip at the race and sports book i frequent Red Rock Las Vegas, In December i will buy a a three or four $50 bet tickets so that we have something to root for together. They take care of me as far as drink tickets and other things throughout the year. It's money well spent.

Yeah. Seriously, you need to think about this. I'll start w/ a few ideas:
1) I think most servers who deal w/ me would consider me to be a generous tipper. OK, what goes into that?
For starters, I'm not a bdf. If $$ was much tighter, those tips would dry up.
Also, I tip on a scale tied to quality svc. If I see that someone goes out of their way for me, I'll be tipping > industry standard. Conversely, a slack job is going to get less.
2) Sports-betting is different. It's not a DISCRETIONARY transaction. You need to factor in the tip as an expense against your net +/-$.
It's a SMALL-margin game. The dollar-figures you list above are way too high. Are YOU that good that you hit 60% vs -110? Are YOU that good that churn a +10% ROI? Do you have a printing press in your basement?
Sports-betting tips should be SMALL, and I do mean small. Like $1 or $2 on $1000 action. Seasoned clerks know that beverage-coupon game. They offer you "drink-ticket"...and you slide em a buck or two.
If you make a BIG score, you can tip a little extra on payout. Especially if it's a clerk that you know you'll be working with again.
3) FINALLY, some clerks will never be happy. They have no concept of money. They think you should be bleeding.
Not YOUR problem. Tip what YOU want. If it's an ungrateful clerk, give them nothing, it's their life.
Lol
Agree mostly.
I have a few that I just won’t tip period. I’ll go out of my way to cash out with a few.
Some are just jinxes so I hate to even place a bet with them.
However there are a few that see me and say high Mike, you need any drink tickets without betting a dollar yet.
So those I take care of. I like to buy my buddies drinks. So why not spend 5 bucks for 20 tickets. That saves me bank on drinks.
All depends my friends.

In NJ the only place I ever got drink tickets was Caesars (Wild West) sportsbook. After covid they stopped giving away drink tickets. That may be temporary with things finally getting back to normal. With ticket writers sometimes I tip a few dollars, sometimes I don't. I always tip well to service workers but frankly a ticket writer is more like a bank teller. I don't feel obligated to tip.

It's hilarious to listen after a player just hit a big score. It's as if the writer was a 50/50 partner on the play. No, your risk is proportional to your contribution (which is zero).
Guy hits a nice score. "Can't even give me FIVE or TEN bucks."
This is a fact. I hear it all the time

I have held every job possible in a Race & Sports book and have worked with countless ticket writers. They run the gambit of not caring if you tip at all to what some of you are describing by feeling they deserve a tip and being pissy toward customers who don't. But the majority as long as you are respectful and are not annoying while you are there like the guy screaming LET'S GO from tip off that is all they really ask for.

I make a habit of tipping 100% of the ticket, win or lose. The last thing you want is a disgruntled ticket writer. Take care of your peeps.

I cashed and lost thousands while during my living in Vegas.
I never thought of tipping them. And I was a cab driver, living on my tips.
FH told me once that if the writers could just cash in the unpaid parlay tickets, they would be rich.
He started at the old school Castaways, where the Mirage is now.
