Tom Heinsohn, whose association with the Boston Celtics spanned six decades as a player, coach, and broadcaster, has died, according to multiple people affiliated with the NBA. He was 86. Heinsohn was a six-time NBA All-Star as a player with the Celtics from 1956-1965, winning eight NBA championships during that span. He coached the team […]

Damn you 2020. Worst year ever. Heinsohn was a true Celtics fan. Oh, how he loved that franchise. Sure he was biased in his broadcast if they were playing but aren’t we all? I’ll miss hearing his incredible voice. Sad day. RIP

Always like him as a commentator. A Celtics honk for sure, but always likeable.

Watched #15 Tom "Gunner" Heinsohn play many a game in the old Gardens with those great Celtic teams. I remember
when he and Chamberlain went face to face in a game and were ready to go at it, Tom picked up a chair and went after Wilt but was thankfully restrained. The good old days in the NBA (I'm 69), when as kids, we'd sneak in to games not usually successfully, as I recall. Boston Garden had an official attendance figure of 13,909 for sellouts but the number was far above that during playoff games. No AC, hot, humid and smoky, big part of the Celts home court advantage back then. Hearing of Heinsohn's passing was a sad note on an otherwise enjoyable day celebrating the USMC 's 245th birthday.
