While there were some who felt college football should completely shut down because of the pandemic, President Woodrow Wilson felt that football added to the overall morale of the country.

As a result, football teams were created at various military posts around the country and actually played against established college teams.

On the hundredth anniversary of the 1918 influenza pandemic, we look back at a campus that prepared soldiers for war, tended to the sick, and came together in a spirit of selflessness and compassion.

They also played the entire MLB season during the Spanish Flu with fans. It didn’t turn out so well for many of them but people were not scared of their shadows in those days
