It actually hurts high school seniors. Not only did my son miss out on the state frozen 4 (canceled the night before) but they also canceled the lacrosse season. He received a lacrosse scholarship for next season but now all those seniors are coming back to play next year. So this means too many kids on the team. They are still honoring the scholarship, but he probably won’t be able to travel with the team next year (too many players). I’m not sure if they are letting all classes get an extra year of eligibility, but if they are, then the incoming freshman class will always have an extra class in front of them.
It will also hurt the 2021 high school seniors as the coaches won’t need many players to fill teams so less scholarships and positions available.

It’s up to the schools if they want to provide the extra scholarships.
The good thing about LAX is that most kids don’t go pro and there’s no money in the sports. So most kids will leave because they’ll have a job lined up.

The seniors who get an extra year have zero impact on the amount of scholarships for incoming recruits with the NCAA. Up to each school. That is part of the announcement.
