If there are no injuries to their starters, they win the AL.

Who's gonna pick up Cole's guaranteed wins from last season? Huge loss right there. I think Verlander and Cole only lost back to back starts twice last regular season. Cole was the definition of a stopper. Stros lose 10 wins off total just from his departure alone imo.

    Does Houston have a chance?

Yes, pretty much all teams not named the KC Royals, the SF Giants, the Miami Marlins, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Baltimore Orioles, and the Seattle Mariners all have a chance.

On paper Houston is the best team in the AL West.
ZIPS (and pretty much me) have the Astros winning 95 games even without Cole.
They still have plenty of pitching and a lot of offense and they play in that weak ass division,

Hell, the only way the Astros don't win 95 games is if MLB takes away their trash receptacles or Altuve's chest mounted electronic device.
Or if there is some back room behind the scenes conspiracy from Rob Manfred and his empty suit boot lickers.

    Team W L GB PCT DIV% WC% PLAYOFF% WS WIN%
    Houston 95 67 0.586 74.50% 13.60% 88.10% 11.70%
    Oakland 88 74 7 0.543 19.40% 29.50% 48.90% 3.70%
    Los Angeles 83 79 12 0.512 5.60% 13.30% 18.90% 1.10%
    Texas 75 87 20 0.463 0.40% 1.70% 2.10% 0.10%
    Seattle 62 100 33 0.383 0.00% 0.00% 0.00% 0.00%

I liked Bears Atlanta Braves thread the other day.

    Yes.

    Will they break it?
    No.

They won't even come close for several reasons.

Watched James pitch vs Boston A squad the other day

Guy could be a 4 or 5 starter that gets 12 wins. Kid was legit.

Are the Angels just gonna suck forever? I mean when is the best player in MLB gonna get some playoff spotlight? Even the cheap ass A's have been good in the division. I'm not an Angels fan just sayin tho. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a great year... finally.

The Angels have pretty smart management, they know exactly what their needs are.
Thing is they're struggling obtaining pitching they need.
They weren't going to drastically overpay for Cole, and after him the good pitching that was left was expensive to sign and everything else what just mediocre.

They won't suck forever, they're trying.

I still like the under here because they can win a respectable 91 or 92 games and go under

They absolutely have a chance this year.

Returning 2 top-10 starters and the entire lineup from a historically great offense last year. Sure you could discount their performance from the past few years from sign-stealing, but let's not forget that they 1) will get a full year of Yordan Alvarez (who raked at every level), 2) are comprised of many top prospects still in their prime (Bregman, Correa, Springer) and 3) Altuve has been an MVP-candidate since 2014.

    They will be fine.
