Is Jose Altuve a Hall of Famer?
This guy seems like he is, or at least was, on track to be one of the greatest players of this generation. It seems he is still in his prime, kind of reminds me of Ichiro. Just a dominate hitter, base runner, leader. Career stats are already impeccable with so much baseball ahead of him. I wonder how he will be judged going forward.

For surface people, who don't read beyond the headlines, yeah, maybe his HOF cred is effected. For people who actually do their homework, and hopefully the HOF voters fall into this category, the guy was much better on the road in 2017 and 2018, the years he supposedly benefitted from the "cheating" in home games. So how exactly are his HOF credentials tainted?

                                  Not gonna get there

                                  Already dropping off statistically

Will need 1500 more hits for 3000 and he'll be 38 by the time he even gets near that.

Average declining, if he doesn't retire .300 or better no.

I just don't think he's going to hit the milestone numbers for induction.

3 batting titles wont do it. Mauer has 3 as a catcher he ain't getting in.

But there is no doubt the Steroids(cheating) greatly enhanced Bond's performance. He was a HOFer before Steroids, and Babe Ruth after starting them. There's no evidence that Altuve benefited from it, quite the opposite.

Due to the scandal, as of now, no. If he continues to put up numbers over the coming years he will probably get in.

Guy was putting up numbers when the Stros were in last place.

But the cheating scandal looms large

weird take to add to the list

my fave was Adrian Beltre being a better power hitter than Mike Schmidt

                                                    Both great sluggers

Beltre 200+ more doubles, 30 bps higher average, 400 less KOs (in 3 more full seasons), similar HRs/ RBI

                                                    Beltre more efficient slugger

                                                    Beltre 1, ARod 2, Schmidt 3, Matthews 4, Groh (throwback) 5

Altuve isn't going to hit the career marks needed for HOF and the scandal isn't going to help him when he's short on #'s

Guy has 3 or 4 good seasons left but if he only gets 170 hits per and bats .280 ish he'll be way off the mark....yet still be an all star

Guy has 3 or 4 good seasons left but if he only gets 170 hits per and bats .280 ish he'll be way off the mark....yet still be an all star
so you only look at cumulative numbers? Weird

maybe Beltre has like 4000 more abs

if Schmidt had that many abs's at his rates he would have had about 794 home runs. if Beltre had Schmidt's AB's he would have had 303 HR's

who do you think was a better Home run hitter? by how much? same for RBI's (Schimidt was way way way better)

doubles would be about the same. loooks like Beltre would hit about 2 more doubles per year.

Beltre's great and has very good longevity, but he's never even been considered head and shoulders the best 3bmen of his era, whereas Schmidt was head and shoulders above the rest for more than a decade.

its was a .19 difference in career BA not .30

                                                        267 vs 286

HR per PA is similar, per AB Schmidt wins (he drew way more walks). But Mike Schmidt was striking out 150x's per year in the 80s man.... guy was simply an all or nothing player, Beltre much more rounded and more of a threat at the plate.
