14 hours to China from West coast, then about 3 hours to Vietnam.

About the same as a trip from Australia to Vegas. Which isn't too bad.

Also, cost is only about US$600 return from SF or LA.

Or from East coast buy a Round The World Ticket for not much over $1000 and go the other direction and visit Italy or Spain on the way instead of China. And maybe Africa or Middle East on way back.
