How can a pitcher with a 100+MPH fastball be drafted in the 11th round???

I cannot wrap my mind around this......

    I'm referencing WOODRUFF here?

    Is this standard?

    Speed don't mean shit?

    WTF am I missing?

Everyone throws hard as shit now days.. woodruff has good stuff but he don’t usually be living at 100!! I think his average is much closer to 96, which still plenty nasty for a starter. He obviously had some developing to do cause think last year was his 1st full time in league and he pushing 27., some these guys develop late. Cards seem to find lot of good pitchers later in draft.

Pretty much a given, lol. I read some gm once talking about when they sign a pitcher to a long term deal they basically factor 18 months off for TJ at some point during the deal. Lol.

That kid Reyes for cards never been or gonna be right. Mfer was filthy and one of highest rated prospects for years but has never pitched more than a handful of games for cards. Crazy

Jordan Hicks 104.2 mph (as a reliever though)

How many starting pitchers throw over 100MPH with the control of Woodruff?

Kids in my travel and little league were throwing every type of ball, best kid/all types of pitches/hardest thrower has had 2 TJ and his arm is done for even basic things

Sucks hicks got hurt too. Cards be way more dangerous if he was closing and Carlos was 7th-8th inning guy.

They say throwing off speed worse than the hard stuff, especially early. Think all these sliders dudes snapping now prob just as bad the 100 mph

His NCAA numbers were not good.
Lousy WH/IP, ERA, and his K ratio wasn't that great either.
He's a late bloomer, a diamond in the rough.

What did he get paid for his signing contract? Could have gone lower because he was asking for too much.

Dude, I messed around in the Prarie League and w Montreal's organization for a few years...

The lower levels are full of kids from everywhere that are 6'4" 175lbs that throw 100, run like a deer and literally can't play the game, don't know the game and are unable to understand the game.

Million dollar arm, 10 cent brain no doubt

I used to play (catcher, a little 3B, and DH)
My height limited me, I'm 5'7" 168 lbs.

I live 5 minutes from a minor league park (Harbor Yard in Bridgeport CT. home of the Bridgeport Blue Fish.
They play in the Atlantic League which is and independent league where the talent level is between AA and AAA ball.
Many former or released pros play in the Atlantic league, it's also the league where MLB does its experimenting like pitch delivery timer, reliever usage, etc.....

I try to catch 12 home games a year or so, it's only a five minute drive, it's fun and cheap.
The talent level is good too, all players and coaches have a good working knowledge of the game.
Some just released pro pitchers are 10 mph ahead of the rest of the pitchers. It's fun to watch it.
Believe me they all take the game serious.
