Some people don't understand the betting markets today - nobody wants to have lines that are any different than anyone else, because they don't want all the action coming in on one side. Vegas may get less than 1% of the action but they still are important in setting the lines.

So why is Vegas hanging +700 lines for Bears SB futures when online is +1500?

"Vegas" has over a dozen sportsbooks with all different prices. There are at least a couple places in Las Vegas where you can get the Bears at +1400.

I think morino is largely right here. You are going to get a lot of la money regardless. With everything up in the air, they are going to shade to the bigger markets. Lakers are definitely not the 2nd best team, and I doubt the clippers are the best team. If the heat get Westbrook, 36/1 is a steal. Jazz are an intriguing possibility as well. This is a year bigger odds may be worth a stab.

i'm a lebron fan since spring 2003 when ESPN televised some of his HS games so i defend him a lot against haters.

that said, this last year he was NOT an iron man as he finally had a major injury.

he will turn 35 in DEC and has many miles on that body. be careful about calling him an Iron man going forward.

Kawhi and the Raptors intentionally had him sit out games, copying the Load Management style of Pop and the Spurs.

                  Kawhi is a champion.

My point in asking the question (which goes back to the OP question of why the Lakers are second favorite) is that the "market" is a mix of books' risk management and taking juice from the bettor when they can. I'm sure that the Bears are getting plenty of public action at +700 because lot's of midwest yahoos are still chasing what they missed last year. I would also say that Westgate and Soutpoint do not cater to casual bettors putting down a 100 on their favorite team.

The casual bettor is paying a lot of juice on these two bets regardless.

Everyone uses the internet to coordinate lines now, when one book or shop moves everyone moves. Vegas will take much bigger action than offshore in general, partiicularly on futures wagers, but that shouldn't impact lines.

I thought Lebron took about 3 weeks off at one point when with the Cavs. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It doesn't surprise me the Lakers are the 2nd favorite to win it all next year, the NBA is wide open, the price is horrible though, the West is going to be loaded, and even if the Lakers make it out of the West, it will be tough for a 35 year old Lebron to hold up with the tempo of the game.

because you don't get burned by setting preseason numbers too low, you get burned by setting them too high, especially when everyone is gonna bet them anyway due to hype

Lakers have 3 top 20 players (arguably 2 top 5) and will add on in a wide open race, 4 to 1 isn't absurd odds

Cousins still garbage I think. In my mind Lakers are not #2 yet.. They may make the playoffs this year though if Lebron and Davis stay healthy.. Cousins will probably blow out his other achilles tendon next year if he doesn't lose the upper body weight..

As it stand Boogie can barely run and barely jump on those twig legs of his.. He looked like a walking injury ready to happen again in the Finals playing with the Warriors.. Guy cannot jump.. No vert..

it's a million more things than just "more titles" and being one of the best and most amazing dunkers in history. it's the competitive streak in him... it's his killer instinct and not shying away from the big shot... ever... unless he's being triple teamed and someone else is wide open around the rim... then he bullets the pass to them for the win. GOAT. too smart. refuses to lose. Defensive player of the year. Steal machine. blocking centers like it was taking candy from a baby.

LeBron defensive player of the year? he was too scared to enter a dunk contest than man up the opposing team's best player

No vert..
16/8 last year injured and coming off an achilles. Signed for the league minimum. Gimme a fukkin break that's the biggest no-brainer ever. You still have McGee, Davis, and Johnathan Williams if it doesn't work out. You forget that this guys was one of the top players in the league a few years ago.

I don't think second is that far off. To me it is Clippers and then a whole lot else. I'd probably put Lakers second just because I know LBJ shows up in playoffs whereas you don't really know what to expect with guys like Mitchell from Utah and Simmons from Philly. Even Giannis struggled in the playoffs a few months ago.

Their issue will be can they stay healthy and how will they hold up by the time playoffs come around. A lot of guys with a ton of mileage.

Utah is interesting but Conley isn't young and its not clear he can stay healthy.

True but playing for the Warriors you are getting spoon fed and getting easy buckets.. He looked like shit in the Finals and you know this..

I hope he does come in shape and to play for the Lakers Gauch this next season. If he's at his top game Lakers will do real damage then in the playoffs.. Davis and Lebron will demand Boggie to get in shape I'm sure.. Davis did play with Boogie also but I don't remember them being that effective together..

He'll be playing a full season now also.

Its never a bad move to get good players on 1 year deals for the price the Lakers got Cousins for - the problem is if you give a Cousins a long-term deal he becomes lazy and isn't good with the team. This year is Cousins last chance to prove he deserves a big contract.

I was actually at this game chillin in the Buss family suite. My buddy and his kid met AD after the game. I bailed before he came out of the locker room. Funny that they are now both Lakers.
