Money talks and despite Kawhi wanting to play on the West Coast, he would take the money. This would also entice a 2nd tier player to join Kawhi and the Knicks.

nba has max contracts. they don't allow that. toronto can pay him more than anyone because years ago they thought the chance at an extra 50 million for staying with a team would work. but when guys have shoe contracts for 300 million, they aren't really worried about that.
